Best bike for surviving "The Walking Dead"?

you can tap the gas station tanks fairly easily too.... yeah its going to be shitty gas but its better than nothing. And Bio Diesel ftw.

Some diesels need minor mods to be bio diesel compatable.

Yeah the older ones most likely will. I have a 1985 Army CUCV (Diesel Chevy K5 Blazer, basically) that took right to it though. Made no alterations, whatsoever. Hell, it actually ran better on it.

Fug I wish I kept that thing. I'm going to have to find another.

Eveyone keeps going on about biodiesel, but I've personally seen three vehicle's motors blown to pieces by it.

All three were painstakingly outfitted to handle it by an environmentally concious business. All three used bio-D from a reputable supplier.
...

And I have seen fleets run off it with zero issues. Maybe the company that "painstakingly outfitted" them where screwing something up.

My employer uses it, heavily. The Navy is using it. All the school Buses in Las Vegas use it. Etc. Etc.

Oh yeah: The original Diesel engine ran on peanut oil and it's still running, to this day. It wasn't originally even considered to run off of petroleum based diesel.

OK so the Zombie plague or whatever destroys the infrastructure. Oil isn't being refined into gasoline and delivered to stations. The gasoline (or diesel, if you prefer) in the underground tanks cant' be pumped up and out without electricity, but the grid isn't up.

Face it, if you survive a couple weeks, you're only using what fuel you have on hand and what you can siphon. Unless you're creative and you rig a generator or hand pump or something like that. Or find a tanker and use gravity. But how long is that ethanol-tainted swill going to last? Months. If you survive a year, you're going to be walking or riding a bicycle.

Screw the bicycle. I can't believe no one has brought this up. But does anyone here know how to ride a horse, hell even a camel..?

I know what I'll be doing when the gasoline or Diesel runs out... :cool

I really love the idea of biodiesel. I was all set to buy a CUCV pickup for work when my employer's trucks (all post 2003) all went south. They're all diesel fanatics and made sure to check the compliance of all their hoses. One of their wives even had trouble with her late model VW.

On the other hand I've also known people I worked with at farmers markets to run old ass Mercedes and farm equipment for years with no problem, including, like you said, improvement in performance. Most of these vehicles ran off of WVO.

Ultimately I decided I didn't really need a truck and was unwilling to test my luck with a motor I owned.

As per "The Walking Dead" a horse is basically a giant zombie feast.

Although, if we were dealing with "Dawn of the Dead" zombies it would probably work (since they were after humans only, allowing a dig to carry a message to another survivior).

Horses are cool and were used to great effect in "Red Dawn".

Yeah, but in a year or so most of the geeks will heave decayed to a point that they are no longer harmful. A stray zombie here and there...

True that. Geeks won't stand a chance. Can you imagine a geek without wi-fi..? :cry

:laughing

OK, biodiesel fuel may be easy to make, but in a zombie apocalpyse what is going to happen to the precursor ingredients you need to make it?

I agree. Get one of these if you are fucking filthy rich and build it out in the middle of nowhere and stock it up with a shit load of fuel, ammo and supplies. Make sure you get the periscope add-on FTW. :party

How about three or four of these, widely spaced, with zeppelin moorings? I like zeppelins! :teethAnd of course, I'll be needing some elves and machine guns.

Yes, performance. Lot less kick. Higher cost of the fuel itself is offset by MUCH longer engine life and much better gas mileage.

Normal KLR 650 has what 45hp and gets 50mpg.

Diesel version of the KLR has about 30hp and gets 96mpg.

KLR for sure, takes a lickin and keeps on tickin, killer gas milage, all black! must have for post apocalyptic style and I through it down the road and it laughs and starts right up with nothing broken, on it anyway, and mine comes with cool James Bond blue smokescreen when you warm it up!!!! Awesome!

Maybe 36 hp.

I'd guess more like 22 hp.

Diesels typically weigh more and are somewhat more expensive to build. The fuel cost difference comes and goes. The main issue for motorcycles has been performance.

Thats assuming the walkers dont eat cow.
wasn't the walker eating the deer dude shot with the crossbow?

Have to make base camp at COSTCO. They have huge backup generators so the gas pumps will work, and they have generators on the shelves! With amo USA next door (WalMart), and the gun shop around the corner, it's just perfect.

Brilliant!!! Now how do we get the fuel to power the generators to get the fuel?

:wtf

a thread about zombies is getting serious ....

Zombies. Serious bizniss.

Yup, ever'body's fantasizing they're axle-deep in warm brass, with the last Hooter's girl on earth on the back of their missile-equipped biodiesel dual-sport, ready to wheelie for safety past the ravening hordes...

Reminds me that a friend (who only rides on the back of motos, but is extremely skilled at deconstructing zombie movies) just told me, "I wish the apocalypse would come, so I'd be more employable." :laughing
