Best motorcycle movie?

I won't get into why Americans and Europeans have differing tastes in sports, but I just wanna say something about ice racing. Growing up in Russia, I remember watching ice racing, as it's portrayed in this movie, on TV. Now, that was back in the late 80's, early 90's. I haven't been back since and I don't know what their TV is like now. But I distinctly remember seeing bikes doing circles on ice with these monster spikes -- all cornerspeed, no slip. That's quite a bit different from "regular" speedway. There's also something called ice speedway, where they essentially use speedway bikes on ice with smaller and fewer spikes on much tighter ovals. Whether the bikes slide or not makes all the difference in the world. Personally, I think if you're gonna do ice racing, do it right and drag your handlebars on the floor.

I also recall first seeing ice racing in the US (I've been going to spectate for the past few years in upstate NY). It takes place on Lake George in February as part of a whole winter festival and it's very very cool. You get to walk on the lake and take in spectacular views, there's helicopter rides, people riding bikes and snowmobiles all over the lake, hot dogs, and all that shit. And the racing is nice. It's a full couple of days with all kinds of classes of dirtbikes sliding all over the place. Newbies, ultra fast amateurs, crazy fast up and coming little kids -- just like a good club racing scene should be. But every time I go see it with new people, I try to tell them about this Russian/Scandinavian type of ice racing and no one understands. It was a breath of fresh air to watch this flick and actually made me wanna get out-there and maybe go to Siberia for a sabbatical and get on a proper ice bike. Siberian winter, free flowing vodka, and ice bikes -- what could be better? Oh, and here's a full heat for your pleasure:

that's pretty rad. would be cool to strap a rotating camera on the riders right rear swingarm. :teeth I think Wisconsin might have something similiar, can't recall.

How about "Winners Take All" Cheesy dirt bike movie from the mid 80's as a kid I must have watched it a hundred times. Had several local racers filmed and rode in that movie as the stunt double for the racers. That and "Dirt bike kid"

If you havent seen either of them they are must do's on the list of motorcycle movies to watch. Especially if you ride dirt bikes.

Yeah, if you're looking for something that isn't a documentary, World's Fastest Indian is probably the best film which honestly captures the ethos of the two-wheeled petrolhead.

If you want a documentary, there's a shitload. Here's a scattershot listing:

On Any Sunday
Faster
Faster pt 2
Dust to Glory
One Man's Island
Mondo Enduro
Long Way Round
Long Way Down
The Doctor, The Tornado and the Kentucky Kid

Some of these are on Netflix Instant

Yes a good list... with #1 in its proper place. :thumbup
I still get chills watching "On Any Sunday" and it is partly because of Bruce Brown that I ended up a lifer moto dude.

I walked out of that movie swearing to become an AMA Racer.. while I did not do a lot of AMA races I do remember my first time on the grid thinking back to my 13 yo self saying.. I did it.

One of the coolest things about On Any Sunday is that Mert Lawwill still lives in the same house in Tiburon.

Even has the same mailbox.

Go to 6:35 in part 1 posted on the first page.

Still no love for Viva Knievel?

Evel as himself (doing a worse job of it than George Hamilton), Lauren Hutton, Leslie Nielsen, Dabney Coleman, and a little Frank Gifford just to top it off.

You want more?
GENE KELLY.

Hell yeah.:cool

"Silver Dream Racer" competes on his square-4 Barton 2-smoke, the basis for Erik Buell's bespoke AMA F1 racer from back in the 80s

this pretty awful movie is thus firmly affixed in the beginnings of Buell lore....

Local Motorcycle Documentary Film: Need Help

Hi Friends and Fellow Motorcycle Movie Fans,

We are just starting work on a film called "Road Wind and Fire: the Story of Why We Ride" We are interviewing people of all types riding bikes of all types, finding the common threads that make people love it.

We are looking for characters- riders who are well-spoken and passionate about the experience, their machines, and riding in general. If you know anyone who is legendary, crazy, brilliant, or a rider you look up to, we would like to hear from you. Or, if you are that person, let us know.

Message me on BARF or email through the website, http://www.roadwindfire.com

Thanks,

Eric

A few weeks after I got my first motorcycle I went and watched, The World's Fastest Indian, starrying Sir Anthony Hopkins. I want to watch another one as of this moments. Another Motorcyle Movie. I read more in this thread to find one. Got Zune firing up from my computer to the TV.

thank you to ALL who mentioned Torque.

I watched it TWICE today - stuck inside with the kids for the rainy Lincoln's school holiday.

There's a 2011 Korean movie called Quick. Just torrent it, stream it, or watch it on YouTube to see ridiculous stunts made on a BMW. The movie is like Speed on a motorcycle instead of a bus.
