This is not a "motorcycle" movie by any means, but the last scene in Federico Fellini's film, Roma, is a small masterpiece within a masterpiece. It portrays a group of motorcyclists riding, late at night, through the Eternal City and going by all the great ancient sites, such as the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. It is particularly powerful if you have the patience to watch the entire film followed by this last scene. It is Fellini's love letter to Rome.

Not everybody's cup of tea, understood.

Fuck yeah. Fellinis is the shit in general.

Worlds Fastest Indian.

I could watch it again and again.

Motorcycle Diaries is my pick for love of adventure and history.

Worlds Fastest Indian is my pick for pure love of speed on two wheels.

Just bought a copy of Icy Riders and watched it. Highly recommend it. Here's the teaser (first 7 min of it):

...those are some crazy lean angles...looks like a great doc, gonna have to track this down...so many questions need answerin...
...but seeing the teaser already reaffirms what so many of us already know...riding keeps you young at heart...watching men older and wiser than myself still racing is truly inspiring...RIDE FOR LIFE...:ride

Very cool (I know, there is a pun in there). I have to wonder why we don't get excited about Speedway, or SuperMoto racing here.

I mean Ice is OK, but it's cold. The intensity can be done several other ways.

Seems like for us, it's road racing or nothing.

I know, the question was about Movie...Not actual racing, I can't understand why Europeans are different than us though, they get into Dakar, and Isle of Man, and Trials and Ice Racing and Road Racing and MotoCross....we get into watching TV and Movies.

So bad it's good. Really it's entertaining. It's on Netflix streaming.

Truth! :laughing

One of the things I love about that movie is that those guys end up riding 175cc Kawasakis, and having a great adventure. It just goes to show that sometimes less can be more.

i had to turn cycles south off when they got to the hippie commune. when the dude almost fell off the cliff tho with his motorcycle, that part was crazy

"Pray for the Wildcats"
It has Andy Griffith, William Shatner, the gay dad from brady bunch and Angie Dickinson.
They're on a dirt bike adventure in Baja, the movie is so bad it's good.
Also in the it's so bad it's good is "The Wild Angels"
It has Peter Fonda, Nancy Sinatra, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd and Michael J Pollard, he's Little Fauss to Redford's big Halsy, another great film previously mentioned..

I won't get into why Americans and Europeans have differing tastes in sports, but I just wanna say something about ice racing. Growing up in Russia, I remember watching ice racing, as it's portrayed in this movie, on TV. Now, that was back in the late 80's, early 90's. I haven't been back since and I don't know what their TV is like now. But I distinctly remember seeing bikes doing circles on ice with these monster spikes -- all cornerspeed, no slip. That's quite a bit different from "regular" speedway. There's also something called ice speedway, where they essentially use speedway bikes on ice with smaller and fewer spikes on much tighter ovals. Whether the bikes slide or not makes all the difference in the world. Personally, I think if you're gonna do ice racing, do it right and drag your handlebars on the floor.

I also recall first seeing ice racing in the US (I've been going to spectate for the past few years in upstate NY). It takes place on Lake George in February as part of a whole winter festival and it's very very cool. You get to walk on the lake and take in spectacular views, there's helicopter rides, people riding bikes and snowmobiles all over the lake, hot dogs, and all that shit. And the racing is nice. It's a full couple of days with all kinds of classes of dirtbikes sliding all over the place. Newbies, ultra fast amateurs, crazy fast up and coming little kids -- just like a good club racing scene should be. But every time I go see it with new people, I try to tell them about this Russian/Scandinavian type of ice racing and no one understands. It was a breath of fresh air to watch this flick and actually made me wanna get out-there and maybe go to Siberia for a sabbatical and get on a proper ice bike. Siberian winter, free flowing vodka, and ice bikes -- what could be better? Oh, and here's a full heat for your pleasure:
