The IOM TT fans would really enjoy The Roadracers. It was an Irish documentary filmed with public television funds sometime around 1979. It chronicles a few young roadracers in Ireland as they fight it out in their local roadracing series. One of the young no-name racers was Joey Dunlop. I really enjoyed the footage of him putting his bike on a fishing boat (ferries didn't run on Sundays) for his first-ever trip to the IOM.

I just watched One Week on Netflix, a Canadian flick of a terminally ill guy riding across Canada on a Norton Commando. Nothing special, but it puts the moto in perspective for most mortals.

I just watched it too. Not bad, really. For the dramatic stuff, I'm a big of Motorcycle Diaries. For non-racing documentaries, Riding Solo to the Top of the World ranks high. For the racing stuff there are lots of great choices.

This is not a "motorcycle" movie by any means, but the last scene in Federico Fellini's film, Roma, is a small masterpiece within a masterpiece. It portrays a group of motorcyclists riding, late at night, through the Eternal City and going by all the great ancient sites, such as the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. It is particularly powerful if you have the patience to watch the entire film followed by this last scene. It is Fellini's love letter to Rome.

Not everybody's cup of tea, understood.
