Can Anyone Stop Josh Hayes, and Who Can?

I think Hayes' best competition could be Herrin, being that he's on nearly the same bike. He's got a year on the big bikes under his belt, so now that he knows all the tracks on the R1, I think he could really give Hayes a run for his money.

Cardenas, he was really good on the 600s, but that doesn't always translate to success on the 1000s. We'll have to wait and see with him.

Eslick could be some competition, especially going to a "normal" bike rather than the somewhat experimental EBR. He's shown some promise and talent, but I'm not sure if he'll have the consistency to really challenge Hayes on a regular basis.
I sure would love to see him get one more crack at a wildcard MotoGP ride and really make a go of it this time, like bag a top ten. That would be awsome.

I'd like to see him get another shot too, but he DID get 7th last time ('11).

Oh shit, Dave, you are correct. OK then, let's shoot for the moon and say a top 5! :laughing

If they give him the bike, he could possibly pull it off. Can you imagine, bein there watching Josh tracking Rossi... that would be so cool. he deserves it.

Geez on the track where last-lap drafting battles settle the score, it's a crying shame to torch your clutch at the irrelevant start. :wow

In the interview Hayes indicates the start is very important since the gears are all so tall. You can't get off the corners like you normally do so it's all carry speed and draft - hence why the start is all so important.

oh and realize the bikes they run at Daytona will likely never be raced again - most of the teams have a very specific Daytona bike.

He was 1 to 2 seconds per lap faster than everyone else...the start was not all so important. Oh well, that's racing.

Good for race fans though, it's entertaining to see the fastest guy have to overcome adversity. Drama! :teeth

I believe Martin will be a serious force if he can keep it on two wheels..Last year, Hayes wasn't much faster than 2011...if at all, mainly everyone else slowed down...

Great call, Ken. I know your instincts are good, but you didn't see this Hayes mechanical issue, did you? :spooky

thats 2 DNFs for Hayes - not a good start to the season

Hayes was fastes by THREE SECONDS in the warmup yet he's in a deep hole with two DNF's.

Racing is a funny ol' sport sometimes.

practice and qualifying doesn't win championships :laughing

I don't know what happened today but yeah

I think Martin will be a force to challenge this year - a 2-1 will surely boost his confidence!

I was listening to the audio on the AMA page, they said his motor let go. Probably his fault about torching the clutch in the first race but this one was a mechanical DNF in the second race.

Fastest guy by far, then two bad luck races to start the season.

I'm going to talk with Josh tomorrow for the show. Given the way we've talked in the past, it should be good.

Our texts over the last two days have been short.

Ask him to 'fess up; he must be imagining that Mladin's out there ahead of him every single session.

Every rabbit needs a carrot to chase!

He is up against it now.. Two races ..no points.

Seems a reliable motorcycle is hard to beat.
