Cheaters in the carpool lane.

I cheat in the carpool lane all the time. I drive a dark SUV with factory tinted windows, and when I see a CHP or pass by one, I just drive along as if I belong there. No sudden movements, no trying to get back in non HOV lane, just keep it trucking. If the CHP can't see into the backseat they may not stop you just to check. They'll stop the cars they can see into for sure. I find it incredibly stupid to sit there in gridlock traffic wasting my life away. The hell with the rules and the fines. Even if I do get a ticket I will fight it and most likely win. And if that doesn't work I can afford the ticket. I'm more special than all those suckers sitting there texting and ramming into each other up the arse.

Hah! Mr. Tough Guy :laughing You'll get busted soon and lose in court. The state needs it money....cool story though :laughing

This is also why they introduced "air pumps" to vehicles' emission systems back in the 70's. Increase the volume of the exhaust by pumping fresh air in, therefore lowering the PPM. Brilliant move, right there. Talk about letter of the law compliance, can you imagine the brainstorming session where some smartass thought that one up and they all realized it would work. :laughing

Actually the air pump, aka the "smog pump" is meant to inject air into the hottest part of the exhaust to try and help light off unburned hydrocarbons, or HC, which is one of the measurements. :nerd

I like the smartass theory my dad told me better. :x

Also, it eliminated any guilt I might have experienced ripping all the emissions shit off my '75 F-100. :party

I agree.

DOWN WITH THE MAN! ANARCHY FTW!

ductaping a migrant worker to yourself doesnt count as carpooling

Just because you steal hubcaps does not make you a migrant worker. We need to get more duct tape for the commute home BTW.

FWIW, a carpool violation ticket is ~$500. If you cheat in the carpool lane for a month and don't get caught, then as far as I'm concerned you are up on Prius owners with their car payments that bought their way into the lane.

Those f'n wedges shouldn't ever be in that lane. Ever. Even if they are carrying 4 people, cuz if they are that means they're going 1/4 as fast as traffic should be going in the carpool lane. A big "F U!" to CA for letting the rich buy their way into carpool lanes in the first place. :x

I thought the idea was to help reduce cars on the road and therefore smog? A Prius makes no emissions when stopped-if they really wanted to save the environment, they should swap places with any of the big rigs sitting there burning diesel.

It's been discussed before, there's no real reason why a Prius deserves to be in the carpool lane. It's just a perk offered by the gov't to stimulate adoption of hybrids- a subsidy if you will.

I'd agree on the latter but not the former. The latter also defeats the purpose of the carpool lane as you do w/ your child. Splitting doesn't.

I'm with you here. Just because it's a motorcycle and takes up less space shouldn't be a free pass into the carpool lane. Never understood why it is.

I thought it was to keep the motorcycles from sharing/splitting between the backed up lanes and/or not having them piled up within the back ups. Just a safer option to let them be able to use the HOV lanes.

I got a carpool ticket 1.5 years ago and it well under $500, somewhere around 300 IIRC. A repeat violation I'm sure would be up there though.

Folks, look on the bright side, by risking it, we're one less car clogging up the non-carpool lanes :twofinger

For a long time carpool violation was $271. I think it went up this year though and I can't remember what it is now.

I'm not a tough guy. I'm just a Elite prick. :twofinger
Oh, and I don't have to go to court to fight a ticket. There are other ways. Even if I lose, I can afford the ticket like I said. I live a carefree life, and am prepared for whatever consequences there are.

$434, plus whatever court fees.

$486. And those cops are rigid (8:58 != 9 am). :(

You sound like person who should own Hwy 9 (if G-Force is selling it).

Hybrids should not be allowed in the carpool lanes. Fuck hybrids. They are overpriced, overly complicated, slow, not terribly green, pointless way of moving around.

A few days ago I saw MC cop waiting on the sidewalk at the intersection of Central Expwy and Lafayette. I didn't really understand why he was waiting there. Right lane on Central is Carpool lane and a lot of people usually cheat. As the light turned green, I saw a red car with only person going in the carpool lane and within 2 minutes he got pulled over by the MC cop for cheating. That was the last place I expected a carpool cheater to be caught as Central ends and everyone has to either turn left or right onto Trimble. This guy was pulled over after he turned right.

I am guessing he got pulled over for carpool violation as he was not speeding and also not talking on the cellphone.
