Cheese Cake-Is it a cake or a pie?

i'm literal.

god meant for cheesecake to be cake, otherwise he would have named it cheesepie.

god also meant for keylime pie to be pie, otherwise he would have named it keylime cake.

:facepalm

but but some cheesecakes have no crust-no bottom and no sides.
sometimes there's nothing on top either-just the cake.

(torte has now been thrown in the mix-BARF delivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Plain, pumpkin, chocolate, lemon: my cakes o' cheese kick everyone else's in the junk. Granny schooled me right.

And pies have a baked pastry crust, no legit cheese cake ever has this!

Pie, Cake, WGAF? When it's squeezed down my gullet, it no longer matters what it's called. If I just ate it, it was mouthgasm worthy.

Dang, now I need some. Might hafta start baking. I might do 'em in cupcake holders to take to work...that's make it cake, right?

Technically, I believe it is a torte. It's got no flour in the batter, and a lot of eggs like a custard. It is NOT a pie. Just because it usually has a crumb crust does not make it a pie. Also, now I am craving it.

yes my cravings continue as well!
The original discussion stems from one probation officer stating that it is a cake and she includes the fact that cheesecake the way her mom makes it does not have any crust.
Her mother btw is a master baker.

Her co worker sees it differently and believes that it is a pie because he does not understand the facts. Pie had crust! Pies usually have a cover of crust as well.

The torte aspect has thrown everyone off a bit and I don't even want to explore the possibility that it is really a mousse.

^^^ Funny. Wikipedia puts cheesecake in the 'custard tart' category of desserts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheesecake

The early Greeks considered it a cake. Some modern authors point to the presence of many eggs, the sole source of leavening, as proof that it is a torte. Still others claim that the separate crust, the soft filling, and the absence of flour prove that it is a custard pie.
