Cheese Cake-Is it a cake or a pie?

yes my cravings continue as well!
The original discussion stems from one probation officer stating that it is a cake and she includes the fact that cheesecake the way her mom makes it does not have any crust.
Her mother btw is a master baker.

Her co worker sees it differently and believes that it is a pie because he does not understand the facts. Pie had crust! Pies usually have a cover of crust as well.

The torte aspect has thrown everyone off a bit and I don't even want to explore the possibility that it is really a mousse.

Its a pie or a torte. Certainly not a cake. Real cheesecake has a crust. What other cake has a crust? Cakes also almost always have flower. Because someone has made a cheesecake abomination with no delicious crust does not make it a cake. And pies do not usually have a top crust. Pumpkin, pecan, banana cream, chocolate cream, key lime, etc... those last few are also pretty damn similar to cheesecake, custard in a crust. Name one other cake similar to cheesecake? The only argument for cheesecake being cake is the name, which is wrong.

good points all around. I'm sure when she reads the "abomination" pov she'll giggle.

Cake.

Says so right on the box.

Tell your dumbass coworkers barf has spoken.

This, btw, happens to be the best cheesecake ever. Waaaay better than that $9 a thin slice yuppie shit served in yuppie restauraunts where yuppie fuckers dine.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm want!

What an odd thing to argue about....

please rephrase using the appropriate meme. it should be:
it's weird people argue about the semantics of cheesecake.

Sorry. :blush I was expecting a :newbie

A similar recipe for New York Cheesecake. Except double all ingredients add some lemon zest and baking is 500 f degrees for 10 minutes then lowered to 205 for an hour. Let cool and refrigerate. It tests your patience, basically can't eat the same day its made. Wait for tomorrow :laughing

Makes a huge tall New York Cheesecake. It get devoured in a few days after others hear about it.

Naturally, I have an opinion of my own, but in my experience, this topic has always been just way too acrimonious. I'm going to stay out of this one. Peace out, and keep it civil, peeps.

Opinions and discussions, perceptions and conversations regarding cheesecake/cheesepie is acrimonious? Hmmmm, have not noticed that in this particular thread yet but if individuals begin to throw punches I'll be sure to remind them that this topic is fairly benign.

Dr. Evil-for a change is it possible that you are off base?

Well, I do declare :rofl

Which sarcasm meter is higher one wonders :p

thus begins and will end the acrimonious dialogue.
Mission accomplished?

Melissa, why so serious :dunno

FTR I think cheesecake is neither cake nor pie :p

Rarely am I serious. I just could not understand why your beloved, handsome man would include such a post? I read it as being serious hence my response.

....a little misconstrued bump in the road...................so if it neither cake nor pie is it a torte or mousse? BTW-I was treated to homemade terramisoo last night which is a mousse right?

Tiramisu... cake, pie, mousse or simple delicious? I never really appreciated this dessert until I had one in Milano as it was recommended by a co-worker at lunch. There was no comparison to what goes by the same name in most US restaurants. Hence when I saw this recipe, from an Italian living in the US, based on how his mother made it. I thought why not give it a try. It did turn out better than most I have had, not sure as good as the one in memory, as we did not re-create the ambiance of Milano. It was however good IMO.

So what is Tiramisu, not sure, it was however what was for dessert. :teeth
