Danica Patrick got the pole!

I practically crap my pants driving the Bay Bridge. While I'll still take every opportunity to poke fun at NASCAR, there's no way I could do what they do. From what I've seen it's pretty demanding physically (which seems odd) so more kudos to a chick for doing as well as she is.

The best thing about NASCAR is you can ignore the first 2.5 hrs of pit stops, crashes, refuels, and tire changes. And then then tune in for the final 30 minutes of the race which is a barn burner.

Beats F1, where you know who's going to win the race by looking at qualifying

Congrats to her, she earned it. In spite of her questionable off track decisions in attempts to promote her "brand" and some of her attention gaining temper tantrums in front of the cameras, she's a racer.

I am not a huge NASCAR fan I will probably have Daytona on tv, I want to see the new cars. Whats their new tagline, "Putting the stock back in car racing...", or something like that?

Fantastic that there are more and more women professional racers are out there and being successful. I'm not quite a fan of whatshername using her bod to do it - sends the wrong message to both the kiddies and the fans.

Little change from a 1909 book I have....

Then there's Violette Morris, who raced at Bol D'Or, and had the personal motto 'Anything a man can do Violette can do!' She also had a double mastectomy in 1928 so she could fit in the cramped car cockpits and drive with greater ease, and was part of the French Gestapo in WWII.

There are many many more like Pat Moss (Sir Stirlings sister), Maria Teresa de Filippis who used Fangio's Maserati @ Monaco, Gilberte Thirion, Annie Bousquet, Marie-Claude Beaumont, Janet Guthrie, and Lyn St. James....

The new automobile museum in Monterey is planning on having a women in racing wing.

You mean the new Chevrolet SS?

Granted it's a little closer to the Cup car since Ford and Toyota have no rear drive small block V8 powered sedan they can sell you. But the day they started being total tube frame purpose built spec cars instead of just modified production cars, there is no "stock" car racing with NASCAR anymore.

They call it the Gen 6 car, so they're all learning how to drive it.

You know it's not "stock", and I know it's not "stock", but thats not gonna stop NASCAR from trying to sell it that way.

BTW, that SS looks pretty good. I guess if we want to watch it race we'll have to watch V-8 Supercars.

Any Daytona 500 watching parties at a bar or what niot going down this Sunday? NASCAR fan here since I was a teen. Drove an old school that hauled ass throughout college sold it though for money reasons. That's why stock cars probably interested me.

Anyway, I'm thinking about either Buffalo Wild Wings in Brentwood or Hooters in Dublin....lol, is where I'll be. If I am going to Dublin I may go to that Fly Fishing Show Pleasanton beforehand. :D

Suggestions, im down for whatever.

Im definitely am rooting for Danica, especially since i got in a friendly a argument with my co worker this morning bout this.

But lets get back to reality though, its restrictor plate racing, an accident will take her out and many out...Earnhardt JR.FTW.

:laughing - not by a long shot.

Interesting.....guys? What says the rest of BARF?

With the make up she's not too bad at all. No make up (like when you see her take off the helmet after getting out of the car)....she's just just an average looking petite girl.

If it hasn't been said already, she's the Anna Kournikova of racing.

You like it? I think the styling is pretty bland to be honest. Interior is nice and I love the flat bottom wheel. But the new 2014 Impala looks "sportier" than this new SS.

I also think "SS" should only be a trim level and not an actual model name. Especially since there is still other current Chevrolets to have that trim level available.

I do, but I like the Holden and the Pontiac G8 as well. Had the G8 lived, this would be the 2nd gen.

I don't really like the swoop coop look that is so popular these days that the Impala has. This car fits in with the performence Camaro and the Vette, IMO.

8th isn't the middle of the pack :x

And she ran up in the top 5 all day which was quite impressive IMO.

Last lap she chose the wrong line, got shuffled out of the grove and lost a few spots but a top 10 finish is nothing to feel bad about in any Nascar race, let alone the Daytona 500.

Danica finished in 8th. And thus begins another season of middle of the pack finishes.

Isn't there like 40 some cars at the start? 8th is pretty damn good after 500 miles.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeite, 8 th is a good as factory Ducatis do in a field of 15 starters... :teeth

Good for her even though she's not a favorite of mine.

Didn't say 8th was middle of the pack. Her finish today in 8th tied her best finish from all of last season. She only had 4 top 10 finishes out of 33 races.

From 1st to 8th isn't a great race.

:rolleyes You try running 200MPH on 31 degrees of banking with 42 other cars. She would chew you up and spit you out.

Never said I was better than her. My bone of contention is she doesn't live up to the hype. One win in 189 starts is not spectacular. If she was a guy, she would have lost her ride long ago.

What girl would look better after driving 500miles with a sweaty helmet on her head?
Like I said before, her skill earns her a few more points on the hotness scale than some airhead at the mall.
She has one less win than Juan Pablo Montoya, who happens to be a pretty skilled driver.

From 1st to 8th isn't a great race.

After 500 miles its respectable, and in only her 2nd attempt she finished ahead of 34 others... she did alright.

Speaking of overhyped, Dale Jr came in 19th, I don't think he'll lose his seat, either.
