Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

RC helicopter with expensive camera? badass

I've actually seen those before. A photographer who solely does RC helicopter photos. Did lots of real estate stuff, cool idea. Better have insurance
 
Oh so I started a 365 project in effort to get me to go out and do photo stuff everyday. I have a set on my flickr that has all the shots, or you can look at them on my blog. Exact same content, so your call :p

OK back to the dilemma (no, just a question) from Porrada about whether to buy a Canon XS 1000D or a Nikon D3000.

I just want to say just reading the last 3 pages makes me buy the Nikon D3000. ;) Just in time b/c it seems I'm at Porrada's decision point, too : whether to buy a DSLR !

I'd like to throw Canon G11/G10 in the mix too. How about it? I like this one just b/c it looks cool, AND is smaller. Who buys these type of cams (big zoom, lots of options but no SLR) and why are they created?

My background is a little mixed. I actually own a Nikon N50 35mm SLR (lens 3rd party) + have shot with a few others. I (did) know manual stuff .

however.. ever since the digi-P&S's came out, I lost all appetite for an SLR.. I just wanted my small Canon S200 or SD1100is.

So.. who buys the G11? Or should it just be a Nikon D3000 if I decide I actually need it?

what would shoot if u did get a dslr?
 
Another interesting shoot this weekend with an upcoming professional competitive salsa dancing couple. Dancers are fun to shoot. These two totally made my life easy. They took direction really well. I always hate it when people fight me during the shoot.

My shooting "needs" as it were are simply to get better quality shots of my kids / family and to be able to scale up my knowledge / skills from the SD1000 I currently use. I've gotten some decent shots with it, but the limitations of a P&S lens are just that.

What convinced me was the visual difference I saw in photos I took with my sister's Canon XS (an entry level DSLR) over the holidays. Changing nothing about my knowledge (was in full Auto mode) or shooting style I got far nicer shots - the difference was solely the hardware.

Imagine if I actually had a clue! ;)
 
I'd shoot landscapes , pictures of things while I carry a camera around all the time -- and some pictures from a moving motorcycle. Maybe not a DSLR for me yet.. ;) But a Canon S90.

But it's kind of a waste, so many diffnt cameras to buy. :(
