Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

My DSLR newb status has transitioned to owner of a D3000 with 15 - 55 and 55 - 200 lenses. Should make for a good start. $649 for the whole deal (also includes battery / charger, bag, strap, 4GB SDHC card and how-to DVDs) @ Costco. :thumbup

Hey Guys. Do any of you have any experience with shooting in the rain? I have some really cool ideas that I want to play with, but I want to make sure that I don't destroy my gear. I can put the strobes and pocket wizards in ziplock bags, but I'm wondering what I can do with my camera. Would it be too cheezy to set up an EZ UP and stand underneath it while my model is freezing her cassabas off in the rain?

Did the baggie keep the camera dry or just 'dry enough?' I'm hoping for a terrential downpour. It kinda sucked. I wanted it to be dry last weekend for a shoot, but it rained, so I cancelled. This weekend, I want it to rain, but it looks like it will be dry on both Saturday and Sunday.

I want to kick Mr. Murphy in the balls right now. :|

get something like this

only set you back 4 figures :p

Cycle61, how's that D200 working out for you?

Images, and comments, plz.

Working great. I had one for quite a while before, so no real surprises. The handling is solid and fast, low ISO image quality and colors are amazing, and high ISO is disappointing compared to the newer stuff. Haven't been shooting much the last month or so, very busy 10-12 hours a day x 6 days a week at the real job. :(

Pictures...nothing worth sharing since the December shoot up in Niles Canyon. Got another one coming up Feb 6th, and a possible one in a week or so.

Also starting to line up weddings for the season. Got one solid and two tentative so far...:)

had a casual photoshoot on monday, mainly just playing around with lighting stuff with jeff (pitslave). got a few nice shots out of it

it kept it dry enough, u might wanna tape it down. i didnt, so i had to wipe it down every so often. it works if done right, man i was hella soaked for the santacon totally forgot about an umbrella.

So, maybe the plastic bag combined with a large golf umbrella strapped to a backpack that I'm wearing would just about do the trick, right? :teeth

tape over anything that wouldn't be considered 'sealed,' like around lens where it mounts to camera, memory card slot area, etc

yea, i met some dude at the santacon run that had cam problems, water leaked between the lens and body, . the body couldnt read the lens due to water on the contacts... should invested in a plastic bag. tape where needed and get that umbrella while ur at it , it wouldnt hurt.

That's a real shame to hear about the high ISO performance. That's just about the only real reason I can think of for upgrading.

It would be nice to have a couple of extra stops in low light. Usable 3200 or 1600 would be sweet.

only way to really get great iso performance is to go full frame. maybe a higher end cropped sensor body will give you 1 or 2 more stops, but not much.

I thought I understood FX vs DX but I guess I don't. High ISO for a given market segment (prosumer, high end, flagship) is better on FF/FX?

So a regular Canon 5D, for example, has better high ISO vs a Nikon D90?
