Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Yea one of my co-workers said we sell em, so I get it at 60% off. I'll take one of those then, and pick you up if you don't have one.

I've already got their biggest heavy duty stand, otherwise that would be cool. Mine still needs a ballhead mount on top though, makes it a lot easier to use.

Wouldn't the IS on the 24-105 sort of make up for the 1 stop difference between the two? Plus you get the extra reach.

One other lense to consider is the 15-85 IS. Give good reach plus you get a little wider for those landscape pics. 24 just doesn't seem to be wide enough on a crop body to me.

Really depends if you like the wider range or the reach I guess.

Doesn't give you the shallow DOF tho...

I seem to recall reading somewhere that 105mm at F4 produces more bokeh than 70mm at F2.8, comparing the 24-70 to the 24-105. I picked the 24-105 for the 35mm of extra reach, as well as the IS.

As for the IS making up for the 1-stop disadvantage, IS doesn't make up for the extra shutter speed to stop motion.

Question:

I'm traveling for about 3 weeks next month and I want to take 1 lens w/ my T2i. I'd like to rent a 24-70/2.8 and a 24-105/4.0, but I'd like to get your opinions first.

I'll be taking pictures of everything touristy: Blue Mountains/Bridges/Ocean/Sea Life/Buildings/People/etc. There will be a lot of both outdoor/indoor shooting, so something that does better in low-light would be ideal. Ermm.. not much sure what else to add. So yea.. what ya'll think?

rent a 17-55 2.8 IS for your T2i...24-70 and 24-105, at 24mm on your t2i is about 40mm. if you like shooting landscape tight, then go with the 24-105. You can push the iso on your camera during low light situation and you can use flash, try a high iso shot and get it printed and if you're happy with the result, go with the 24-105...

shot with a 400 2.8

I like that one. What bird is it, BTW? It's got blue feet!

Oh my. The rental place didn't have the 70-200 I ordered for pickup today. So they gave me a 200 f/2 instead.

Wedding just got interesting. :)

^^^nice one, Nick! Did you get them to drop the price too? :teeth

I've been so busy with my day job lately that I haven't had a chance to do any photo shoots. I just noticed that not shooting is actually more expensive for me that shooting because I tend to dream and buy gear when I'm not shooting. I'm really close to putting an order in for an Alienbees ring flash right now.

No, I didn't have the heart to ask for a price drop, since they're gonna have to buy another 200/2 for a customer who's picking up Friday, and I've got a full week rental. :wow

It's nice doing business with good people. :thumbup

For wedding photography, the 200 f/2 is The Coconuts!!

BTW, was it borrowlenses.com that you use?

Yes, and yes.

Actually, since they only have a single copy, it's probably the same one I used last August.

It's sitting next to me at my desk right now. Awfully tempted to leave work and go shoot. Gotta wait a few more hours. :)

get ready for arm pump???

can anyone tell why there's such a price fluctuation on the canon 400mm f5.6?

try a 400 2.8...but to answer your question, it's the dollar value that's
makin the lens prices fluctuate...
