Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Your XSi takes fine pictures, as I recall. :thumbup

Just concerned about focus speed, I don't know how the rebels compare to the 30d or 40d in that regard. If anybody does have one available, that would be awesome. :)

I have my 20D... but i hear you're breaking camera's left and right! :p

Full-frame would be a liability in this case. Shooting long and fast. I'd rent a 40D, if anything, but I have no $$ to spare.

I have a 20d with grip you could borrow...have anything you could leave as collateral?

so my dad bought the nikon 80-400 on ebay to try out during his Africa trip. He liked it, but didnt think he'd have much use for it afterwards, so he put it back on Ebay, and sold it for $50 more than he bought it for. Gotta love ebay...

Wow!

Any idea what a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 runs for used? I can't afford the 70-200mm VR ($1900) but a used 80-200mm might be in the budget. I see new they're now $1100 whereas when Ken Rockwell wrote the lens review in 2006 they were $900 new!

I was thinking about the Sigma 70-200mm HSM f2.8 for $700 +/- new, but I'm a little nervous spending so much money for an off brand with a spotty reputation.

EDIT... looks like $800 used. Anyone want to debate the merits of Nikon/Sigma as they relate to the 70/80-200mm f2.8? :D

comparing the sigma 70-200, i'd probably just go for the nikon 80-200 for about the same price. i also was thinking of the 80-200 myself due to budget reasons...

i would get a nikkor or L on the 70-200 2.8 line up...

and here i am with a 400 2.8 doing work...

Damn, nice lens! :drool

Sample images for us?

BTW, yeah... I guess with the Nikon 80-200mm vs. the $1900 model is VR and better autofocus... All I really want is the big aperture for sweet DOF. VR would be nice but it has its limitations and is for the extra change I could pick up a bunch of other lenses (or even an extra body!)

retailers jack up the prices on those 70-200 cause they have new stuff coming out...well just about every lens out there...i was gonna get a 135L but wtf, price went up...good thing i bought my 70-200L awhile ago or i woulda payed hundreds more...

Why is the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D (NEW) now $1050-$1300 vs. the $820-$915 range when Ken Rockwell wrote his article in 2008? (Just using his article as a reference point for the past)
