First mtn bike race!

~17.25miles with ~2116 ft elevation gain -- that race wasn't easy, especially riding a 32lb FR/AM bike:p

I'll be at the next race on March 1st:)

I just pedaled really hard, closed my eyes and turned left or right about every 2.5 seconds. Worked pretty good :)

I'll try and give my rendition of the race after work today. but I will say it was a total blast. I love XC!

Hey Guys,
I was going to go for a ride this weekend but realized that I have broken another frame so I will have some parts available for sale in the next few days
Stay Tuned...

That was fun - way to go BARF Racing (we all put that as our sponsor)! Not sure when I'll be able to make another one, but it gives me an idea of what to expect so I can prepare a little better.

My preparation for the race consisted mostly of dropping pounds and piling on roadie miles, but it wasn't enough to boost my climbing to a level I'd call acceptable. The race itself sort of mimicked my weekend fun rides and bike segments of triathlons - gain a little ground on descents and flats, lose a little more ground on climbs, with my heart rate on "self destruct" the whole time.

In the end, I finished in 6th place in Beginner Men's 35-44, crossing the line in 1:28:37 - 11:27 after 1st place crossed the line. A few minutes after crossing the line, I saw Lisa working hard through the last few turns - the grimace of pain on her face made me think I was in trouble for convincing her to come out for her first mtb race. It was similar to the look she had when I tried talking her into riding The Three Bears on the roadbike after riding a loop of Tamarancho. Luckily, the 2nd place finish she collected turned that grimace into a pleasant smile :)

Some stats:

Distance: 17.37 mi
Time: 1:28:41
Elevation: 1,806 ft
Avg Speed: 11.8 mph
Avg Heart Rate: 174 bpm

Good job guys, way to represent BARF :thumbup

I'm also still serious about the BARF multi sport Racing jerseys. How much would you guys be willing to pay? I think I can get sponsors to cover some of the cost :)

I'm trying to get it together for this weekend's duathlon. I'm currently dealing with a corneal ulcer in my left eye, so I'm playing this weekend's race by ear, and keeping my good eye on the weather ;)

John, would it be a cycling jersey or a triathlon singlet?

Yeah, I'd like a summary of how the race event takes place. Wish I coulda made it. :/

Our race started at 9 AM. Here's how it went:

5:30 - Wake up
6:15 - Leave East Bay
8:15 - Arrive at Fort Ord and register
8:30 - Put on gear
8:45 - Head to start line
9:00 - Start
9:00 to 10:30 - Suffer
10:30 - Forget about suffering and talk about how much fun we had

Good times!
