Do You Mountain Bike?

The Minions and High Rollers seem to be the choice for a number of folks here:http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=384974

Interesting - SJensen likes the same combo Joe and I use for bay area riding. The guy manning the WTB booth at the Cougar Mountain Classic ran that combo as well.

There are a few different opinions on that thread, but SJensen seems like the most familiar with the places we ride and the tires that work well for them.

Our Mutano/Weirwolf combo is the best combo I've ridden as far as grip and roll.

However, when riding either really gnarly dh stuff and or really slippery due to wetness or loose sand, tires with big knobbies (like the Timber Wolf Team DH 2.5's) on my Iron Horse are really the cat's ass. I also rode Maxxis Minion ST (Super Tacky) and they were pretty friggen special as well.

Check 'em out

for DH I run a Nokian Gazzaladi 3.0 on the front. It's heavy as f*ck...but never flats, hooks up better than anything and rolls through rock gardens like they're paved:thumbup. Great for resort runs but I like it so much I use it everywhere (even Annadel)...pedaling that thing up hill just makes me stronger.:teeth
I run 2.3 weirwolfs on back.

I have absolutely no more excuses. I just put the pedals on my KHS and took it on a couple of quick laps around my circle, and it is lightning quick, climbs like a billy goat, is bullet fast downhill, and totally responsive at just about 26 lbs even. Now I just need to work on the rider :cry

Hearing this makes me

:)
This is why I love working in the garage.

John,
Please ride the shit outta that bike, and come late spring, quietly destroy us on a group ride.

And to everyone else,
the garage is always open and the work is free.:)

Hi Greg! :wave :teeth

Curious as to what everybody carries in their "mountain biking" pack. I'm starting to think that carrying a pump, bike tool, extra tube, is a very good idea.

I saw the KHS - that's not John's bike, is it? Did Gregory get one just like it?

DUC32 front end? Look out :)

That'd be my 6" KHS AM :) I figure this will be my fun ride and the KHS team will be my training and racing rig. If the AM rides anything like the Team, I'm gonna be one happy camper :teeth :banana

As of right now my NRS Air rests comfortably at 28.3 lbs:wow and when we removed both wheels with big heavy tires on them the frame and componentry weighed only 18lbs:wow:wow

The wheel set is not bad but also nothing to brag about so after I replace the wheels and tires and get lighter disks, replace my 300 gram eggbeaters with my Ti road ones, install my carbon handlebars and stem, trim the BB down to a sub 200 gram one and get a second magura marta for the rear I believe I will have this bike down to the 25-26lb range and may be able to shed up to a lb more when I upgrade the shifters and deraileurs.

My short goal is a 26lb full suspension bike a very easy goal to reach at this point. My long term goal when I can afford it is 24lbs of XC trail beast:cool

I work for free, so that's what I want for the frame. You need this frame too.

Don't hate me cuz I'm petty :teeth I do need it although I've been looking at 5" travel. At the same time I've been thinking of just keeping the hardtail since I'm getting used to it. Aaack not sure what to do

How comparable is it weight wise to some of the newer stuff on the market?
