Do You Mountain Bike?

I'm thinking Demo on Sunday. I don't think the road is open, but people can park at the closure and ride in. I think it's another mile and a half of pavement.

Who's in?

Oh you bastages! I've got plans on Sunday already. :mad I've never been, which trail will you ride?

Steve

Sat. March 8, 2008, BTCEB Park Beautification Day and BBQ, JMP

Who's down? Might as well help maintain the trails we like to ride no?

BTCEB will be hosting a Park Beautification Day & Volunteer BBQ Saturday March 8th in Joaquin Miller Park. Meet at 8:30 a.m.at the Ranger Station for coffee, pastries & orientation. Trail work starts promptly at 9 a.m. Stick around for fabulous BBQ in the Main Meadow immediately following! We hope to turn out a broad community of park users for a fun, rewarding day of trail work.

We'll work on pulling invasive Broom, clearing out of drainage dips, re-armouring soft spots, and basically sprucing up this great park. Volunteers are critical to keeping these budget-crunched parks pristine and enjoyable. As you may now the JMP Trails Working Group is still developing a master plan for the park and it's important that cyclists stay involved in the process and show our support in the park. JMP has the only legal singletrack in the East Bay and is a great example for multi-use on narrow trails with low conflict and accident-free trails. BTCEB will supply the tools. Bring gloves, water, and sturdy shoes. Heavy rain cancels.

DIRECTIONS: Take the Joaquin Miller/ Lincoln Avenue exit off Highway 13 (Warren Freeway). Proceed up the hill (east) on Joaquin Miller about 0.8 mile, then turn left onto Sanborn Drive (look for the Woodminster sign) and loop around to the the parking lot near the ranger station.

Sounds fun!

But, that's the day before our CCCX DH race.

More than likely we'll be at Toro Park on Saturday for race practice.

Do you know if you can do practice runs the morning before the race?

thought I might find a few mtn bike riders here . Ill be doing a good ride tomorrow from skyline gate , noonish if anybodys down for a brisk ride :thumbup

Ya know, I've been thinking about Demo, and wondering if it's a good idea. Here's a list of some injuries it has caused:

Me: Banged up shoulder after going over the bars on a high speed descent
Harpo: Banged up shoulder after landing a jump wrong
Gregory: Laceration on his upper lip + poison oak after going over the bars / off trail in a rock garden
The admin for MTBR: Lost teeth + airlift after falling off of a log

I've taken three others up there who have also suffered injuries.

- A light concussion after going over the bars in a rock garden

- A fractured shoulder after sliding out at speed in a turn

- Internal bruising after going over the bars on a tree root.

With several events ahead of me in the upcoming months, I really need my health. I'm wondering if Annadel is a better bet...

If I'm around that day I will come out for this for sure (might do the cccx race tho). I know of a couple good kickers that could stand to have landings built... ;)

Yipes!:wow I'm definitely gonna be fully padded...

Did you say Annadel?:D

Do you know if you can do practice runs the morning before the race?

Yes, there's practice from 8-12 on race day, then they start the timed runs.

I speak for myself, and tell on the others!

All of us who have crashed at demo were riding like jackasses when we did it. Has anyone realized that we are riding at a pace that most people won't even consider? I have yet to be passed by anyone at Tamarancho, and I'm trying to keep up with Joe and Mike.:thumbup
My favorite shop apron had a slogan on it:
"Ride like an Idiot"

Glad to do my part:)

I'm definitely not going all the way up to Annandel again this weekend, unless someone is driving me this time!

I might just hit up Saratoga Gap again. It's a pretty cool little trail IMO.

Dude, as per our discussion on the phone, ... put your 'giney back in your skirt and put the ride together. :thumbup

Ride a pace (that you are definitely capable of) that will get you out in one solid piece and don't do any obstacles that could lead to injury.

Let's do it. Demo is a blast and a great workout. :thumbup :teeth

That all said, when are we meeting and where?

PS. Ryan, if you can make it to Demo on Sunday I will be bringing someone that you will definitely enjoy playing with ;)

Hrm, I thought I posted it. Guess it didn't go through. Weird.

How about the Starbucks in Los Gatos at 9:30 AM?

Starbucks
442 N Santa Cruz Ave
Los Gatos, CA 95030, USA

I'm not sure what parking is like on the road to Demo, since we probably aren't going to make it all the way to the parking lot. We probably want to take as few cars as possible, and not leave gearbags in them. I bring my gear to Demo in paper grocery bags to discourage theft.
