Do You Mountain Bike?

Well done guys :thumbup

Any more pics? :teeth

and let me know what you all think of the work we did on Chappy and Cindy this weekend ;)

Fuck, I'm so upright it looks like I need streamers and a basket on my handlebars. Body position!

Lessons learned by the SuperJew in DH race #1:

1. Do not wear your camelback. It makes you look like a full on 'tard in your pictures.
2. No matter what, when you see the guy with the camera, hit a jump, GET SOME AIR. Hell, even if you have to jump into the woods and crash and burn it looks better than that full-on dork shot.
3. Don't wear black. It doesn't photograph well, and shit, I'm not here for the trophies, I just want to look like a stud in a few pictures for on-line dating. :twofinger :laughing :laughing

You guys all rock. That was a F@#$EN blast. We need to do that again and seriously make a party of it. :teeth

PS. Sunny, you followed me on a first practice run, not knowing the course or how much traction there was. Concern for walking on Monday was of premium importance but I can assure you that by the time race run came around I appropriately stepped it up even while still keeping the whole "walking" thing in mind. :p

Wednesday 3/12, 11am, Demonstration forest. So far, about 7 or 8 going, with a good mix of skill levels. Anyone else?

I'm a weekend only MTB guy, so I'm out. Just curious, which trails do you plan on hitting?

I talked to some guys, and the course was not marked, but able to ride on Saturday too.

So, yeah..

Joe: All I know is, next time I am bringing my MX helmet. I look like a DORK with the road bike helmet. :p

Sounds like yall had a sweet time. Missed it due to some family issuse, might make the next one, we shall see.

On a side note, spent my saturday at demo and did 3 loops with a friend of mine, BUT I CUT THE SIDEWALL ON MY BRAN-FUCKING NEW MUTANO RAPTOR. Anyone know of a way to patch this baby up? its about the length of the diameter of a penny (if that makes sense). It's cut wider than that, but thats the only part thats completely through....

Second side note, wanna ride the gap this week ducky? i have tuesday and thursday off. If ya, lemmie know when your available

Ya'll took down the kicker Ryan built...:(:x

I think I'll show up for practice the day before so I won't feel so rushed while practicing on race day.

Next race is on Saturday, March 22nd:)

Dude, you look like a dork only because you've got your, "I just got laid for the first time" face on and not your "race face."

Oh, and the sound emanating from your mouth should have been GRRRRRRRRRRRR ! ! ! :mad
Not , .... Weeeeeeeeeee :teeth :laughing :laughing :laughing

Re: March 22nd - Lets chat, who's going? Right now looks like I can make it :thumbup
Re: The climb - Is 3.5 mile @ 1800ft the distance for one climb up or multiple? :wtf

As Ryan and I were driving home, we came to the conclusion that although the event was a great experience and fun; when you consider a $35 fee for all of that work, sitting in lines, then having to throw common sense out the window to ride down some "sketchy" shit as fast as you can, really wasn't all that worth it.

We could have ridden Demo for free and had *more* fun with the same amount of climbing.

With that said, I promptly stated that I will bet $50 the one person who will be DYING to do this stuff again, is Joe. He won his class, and anyone who is winning at something they are doing, is down to keep doing it! :twofinger

With that said, I'm really eager to try an XC race and would really like to ride UC SC. :teeth

PS. Joe, you're a fucking animal. Props to you for throwin it down!

WEEEEEEEEEE:ride:x

I do plan on going the 22nd.

I didn't mind all the work, that climb was brutal, but that was the workout for that day:p

Not sure....ya gotta ask Mikey.:wtf

Anyhoo, I'd really like to ride Demo again.

Well I'm going to wear hiking shoes next time, and someone said to use tires with small blocks around monterey for the rocks and hard pack, since nothing will grip in 6" of sand anyway.

full moto status on the epic, with the pedal action out of the corner, thats the way to do it. I think ill go down to the next one if others are. I second the notion to make it a party....:teeth

Pay the $10 and run again. Just makes sense now and we know it was 1 hour hiking to the top.

I don't know if another run would have done it for me. I know I'm struggling to get in and out of hairpin turns cleanly (not unlike roadracing) - developing a new skill might take some time. I'm just so used to doing the "be kind / don't skid" thing on public trails, and (as far as I can tell) it's not the fastest way down the hill.

I didn't mind all the work, that climb was brutal, but that was the workout for that day:p

That climb was right around 900 feet in 1.4 miles. I found it similar to the Tractor climb @ Demo, which is around 1000 feet in 1.7 miles. Tractor was the one that Sonny, Ev, and Roxy skipped / Harpo walked (half of) / Dan bonked.

Next time, I'd like to get three practice runs in and walk the course once.

I kinda agree. There's a certain pace I like to go that's somewhat quick, fun, and flowy - we all have to go beyond that in a race situation.

With that said, I promptly stated that I will bet $50 the one person who will be DYING to do this stuff again, is Joe. He won his class, and anyone who is winning at something they are doing, is down to keep doing it! :twofinger

No bet here - I was thinking the same thing :)

I'm down for either once I make it through the Wildflower triathlon.

Hey Scott, do you feel like the Mutano is a little less "drifty" than the Weirwolf when you're leaned over and riding the edge of the tire? It's almost time for a new front for me, and I'm considering a switch.

most definetly. i've found that with the weirwolf, though good in loose over hardpack, is EXTREMELY drifty in strait loose stuff. (Sandy, deep, powdery stuff ie demo in many places). The mutano is the type of tire that bc of the big ass outter lugs doesnt want to "push," or not grab hard in the corners, where the smaller more abundant knobbies of the weirwolf is more prone to that drift you've prob come accustomed to. You will be amazed the diff after riding sawpit, or the upper part of braile where its fast and flowy berm'ish type stuff. I noticed a HUGE diff when i went back this weekend with f/r mutanos compared to my weirwolfs last time. Much faster throughout the trail for sure.

Thanks for the tip. Toro Park was the first place I've ever really felt the bike ride loosely - it wasn't very confidence inspiring. I'll give the front Mutano a shot - Beavers seems to be really big on 2.24s front and rear too.

Anyone want to split a set of 2.24 Mutanos? Shit, maybe I'll just split em with Lisa - I think she wants to give the Downieville XC race a shot :)
