Do You Mountain Bike?

One hour sounds reasonable for ya. My stopwatch last year gave me a 1:08, but my end time was a 1:17 - not sure how that happened, but it's not like a 1:08 was gonna get me some kinda trophy so I didn't make a fuss.

Can't wait to get a couple of practice runs in once the snow melts!

You're gonna try to enter without having ever ridden the course? Brave woman :)

If anyone (ducky esp) wants to do one of my DH training loops (Shuttle) in the Saratoga gap on Tuesday or Thursday evenings let me know. I go out there at least once a week. It is illegal though, so if someone (ranger) see's us, your on your own. BUT cursing its about an hour and a half of primarily DH, with pedaly sect's. My fastest time down was an hr 6 minutes to date. Goal is low 50 mins. come on out, lets ride

FACK FACK FACKK!!!!

I've been kicking myself all night.

Lesson 1: Follow a fast guy you trust during practice.
My speed in the top half of the course was directly related to Joe and his concern for walking the next day. (too bad he lost me in the switch backs) Thanks man :thumbup

Lesson 2: dont race if you are going to pussyfoot 1/3 of the race course.
I should have slid the bike into the ground full speed rather than tring to keep upright while clipped in.:(

Lesson 3: No amount of heroic peddaling or saving two wheel slides from too much speed will make up for lesson 2.

More lessons later, I just want to go back and run it again.

BARFers @ Toro Park:

Pakow - 7th in Expert Men 19-34
Harpo - 1st in Beginner Men 35-44
MrCrash - 2nd in Beginner Men 35-44
Ducky Fresh - 4th in Beginner Men 19-34
fawndog - 6th in Beginner Men 19-34
zx6roxy - 1st in Beginner Women

A side note:

- Harpo's 3:54.61 time in Beginner 19-34 would have scored him a runaway win in Sport 19-34. The winner of that class did a 4:11.42

My own notes. I need to:

- Work harder at establishing reference points in the faster part of the course
- Learn to weight the bike and turn the bike in such a way that traction is maximized at all times.
- Get in and out of switchbacks faster by learning to square them off

I need to:

PEDAL-PEDAL-PEDAL...yes even on the downhill...When Sonny said that he was pedaling the entire race, I realized where I lost A LOT of my time.

I too, need to work on getting in and out of those switchbacks faster.

For my first DH race it was a good learning experience --- I achieved my goal of not crashing:)

Pay the $10 and run again. Just makes sense now and we know it was 1 hour hiking to the top.

My roadbike-derived pedaling ability might be all that separates me from Everett and Sonny at this point.

My hat's off to both those guys -I think both of them started trail riding only last year, and now they're right on my ass as far as downhill speed goes. I knew both of them would come up to speed quickly with their roadracing and dirtbike experience, but I didn't think it would be that quickly!
