Do You Mountain Bike?

I'm trying to pick up a bike before this weekend because we're going camping in sly park and i wanted to bike some.
note: I have a 31 inseam

Here are some that did look interesting...

.....

OK...here's my .02.....forget about Full Suspension and go with a new hardtail....why?

1. buying new in a reputable shop will make sure the bike fits.....that is numero uno in importance.....no chit...bike has gotta fit or you won't ride it...and it's top tube (ETT) length first...stand over height second...

2. virtually all of the trails in the bay area are hardtail *friendly*....and it'll make you a better rider....

3. your budget (i'm guessing around the $650 mark) only allows for a *mediocre* FS bike......but it allows for a really pretty decent HT....plus...HT's tend to lighter, which you'll appreciate on loooong climbs..

Good luck with whatever you purchase :thumbup

bah!.......you're a freak bro'.....a fast downhilly freak!......:twofinger

besides, i like my *downhill* bike a little smaller - easier to flick around......but my rigid singlespeed i run big and wide - need more room to crawl around the frame.....and my endurance bikes fit just right - they gotta...i spend a lot of time on them... ;)

what size is your Nomad....Large?....23.3 TT....and you're built like a spider monkey....2 inches taller than me....sounds right...:cool

ya its a large. i hated how long the XL felt, not-dh worthy to me. I'm looking for a HT frame so set up SS. whats decent, and reasonably priced?

i ride a surly 1X1 for my rigid rig......just a nice, simple steel frame - and it's got FFF technology (Fatties Fit Fine)....so you can stuff wide tires if needed.

how's this - let me know next time you go out for a casual ride and we can switch bikes....or heck, you can just borrow mine......i'll even gear it down so your noodle legs can pedal it up a hill.......:teeth

awwww so kind. with my lack of riding lately ive thrown a single 36T and 11-32 cassette on the nomad. training aid. no more noodle legs mr. there like tree trunks now...

:rofl

HA!.....then you now are shaped like a typical cycling T-Rex.....huge thighs...and the upper body of a 12 year old girl......SS'ing will cure you of that.....:rofl

i kid...i kid....;)

thanks for the tips!
Well i'm not a hardcore biker, nor do I plan to be, more of a monthly weekend warrior kinda thing. heck, even the bike a Costco suits me fine (IMO).

am I ever going to do any type of event? no,
any ski/dh places, no.
Just decent set of wheels is all I need. Brakes work? check. I'm good to go.

Also, what's top tube (ETT) length?

Anyone wanna let me borrow their mtb this weekend? =)

Also, what's top tube (ETT) length?...

The effective top tube length is the horizontal distance from the top tube/head tube junction to the seat tube. This measurement has become significant as more and more bikes are designed with sloping top tubes.

(definition shamelessly stolen from the interweb)

good attitude.....you're gonna have FUN...maybe not halfway up that first big climb....but FUN nonetheless..:thumbup

and once you start riding with groups....then you're hooked....soon you'll be railing a custom ti 29'er full rigid SS participating in 24 hour races.....burritos and beer no longer make your pants tighter......you'll go from 2K days to 5K days to 10K+ days.....

dammit!...now i wanna go ride....frig!

I got my ass handed to me in Beginner last time, but one Half Ironman triathlon and 20 fewer pounds later I'm itching to give it another go :)

I swear, the hardest thing about these Sunday races is having to take it easy on Saturday. We'll see ya down there!

Anyone have a 2.24 mutano? shredded the sidewall on one and need a decent one for tubeless
If you still need one give me a shout. Sell you a brand new one for $32. That's just about what I paid.

Pretty F'd up. Got back some range of motion but absolutely no strength. Waiting for my test next Monday to find out for sure.

Either way, I just don't see myself being able to ride the mtn bike for a loooooong time. :( :cry

I have been the same way since Oct

Make sure you strech that thing mine got all tense / tightened up due to the lack of moving / using it and favoring it.

I feel your pain
