Do You Mountain Bike?

So can I assume that Demo is still there and not just a burnt pile of cinders? :wow

Yeah, the other fire was quite a ways from Demo and it moved in the opposite direction, according to the maps I've seen. Looks like it's gonna be a crazy year for fires :(

Pre-ride

Consume a pre ride meal of complex carbohydrates (breads, rice, potatoes, pasta) 2 or 3 hours before the ride >snip<

Roxy,
So our rides start early (7-8 showtime)... I don't necessarily want to be chowing on potatoes (or anything for that matter) at 5am. I don't usually eat very late in the evening. So where does that leave me? Can I chow down on a hearty burger or chicken pasta, etc for dinner at 7ish...? I also like my java in the morning...

How about a meal replacement shake with adequate protein and carbohydrates?:)

Your dinner choices are fine at 7pm.

Coffe is OK, just remember that it is a diuretic -- increases your rate of fluid loss. Just make sure you're hydrated throughout the ride.

Yes
2.5 hr drive? Maybe 11 is that too late?

You're referring to Saturday at Auburn?

The earlier the better for us, since Lisa and I have to be back in Sacramento for dinner plans, and it's gonna be around 90 degrees in the early afternoon.

Hope to see you guys out there. Google maps says 1 hour 45 minutes from Emeryville to Auburn, so maybe you don't have to leave as early as you thought?

Auburn on Saturday is on. Here's a map:

http://arnica.csustan.edu/mtbike/Maps/Auburn_Map_small.jpg

Starting at the Confluence, I'm thinking we can do:

Clementine > Connector > Foresthill Divide Loop Trail > Connector > Culvert > Confluence

Should be about 25 miles. Who's in, and how early do you feel like going?

Dang it!!! That's what I get for not checking the thread for a few days!! I'll be up bright and early here in a few hours to drive up to Northstar for practice all day and then race on Sunday.

You guys have fun and I wish I could be there so I can meet you guys and then get dropped like a bad habit on the long ass climb.

**Watch out for hikers up there. They get alittle testy. Most of the local hikers are very nice and cordial but on the weekends, it sucks because they think they own the trail.

Just read on MTBR about your collarbone on Boondocks - that sucks!

You mentioned that your race season was done - when do you think you'll be doing recreational rides again>

anyone know how, or mind showing/helping me shorten brake hoses on some brakes for me? I'll pay in beer. i have the banjo's needed, and brake fluid.

I see the bone doc on Tuesday and will get a better idea but my buddy that was with me had broken his collarbone last year and it took him 8 weeks to heal.

Looks like my Whistler trip is a no go as well.

I just got back in from looking at my SOCOM and it looks like my cranks are bent as well as my chainring. Great......oh well, my bro in law reps SRAM/TRUVATIV/ROCKSHOX so I'm gunna order me up some lightweight XC cranks to replace the holzfellers.

Too bad you don't live closer. We could have a broken, cripples pitty party while all our friends are out riding. :( :cry :cry

I have a 20mm front hub if that helps you any. Also, if you don't get everything you need you can borrow some stuff off my rig. Not like I'm gonna be using it any time soon.
(everything but the fork. Mine won't work for you unless you want a 7 incher built for a 145 pound guy)

They're used. I ran them at two CHDH races and one day at Northstar. There's a couple of scratches. PM me if ya want.

Saturday's Ride @ Auburn

Hope we can get this going again sometime, as we missed out on some really good descents. I attached my Garmin to my bike for more accurate elevation numbers, only to discover the timer stops if I remain still for too long. I only missed about half a mile though.

Our route was essentially Clementine > Connector > Half of Foresthill Divide Loop > Foresthill Road > Old Auburn Foresthill Road > Confluence. We missed Culvert and skipped Stagecoach, both of which have some pretty fun descents.

Some numbers:

Total Mileage: 20.61 miles
Total Elevation: 5922 ft
Total Time: 4:12:14

I was in Sacramento for the whole weekend, and had trouble deciding what to do on Sunday. I originally planned on a 40-50 mile roadbike ride on the American River Bike Trail followed by a 4 mile run as a training brick to prepare for the upcoming Xterra Off Road Triathlon, but I decided to go back to Auburn for more trail riding. I had a craving for descents, and figured I could do a 4 mile run after a 15 mile trail ride. I'm not in Sacramento very often - it just seemed like a waste to ride flat bike paths when I could be railing singletrack and bombing descents!

Unfortunately, I missed the Connector trailhead on Foresthill Road, and ended up adding another 5-10 miles to my trip, eliminating my plans for a post ride run. But those were some fun miles - Foresthill Divid Loop and Connector from East to West have fantastic flow!

I had a slight scare, running out of water on mile 18 of 24. 100 oz just isn't enough in that heat! But since the last 4-5 miles of trail were downhill, I figued I could make it if I didn't pin on the descent.

They've built up some really cool shit on Culvert, with lots of doubles, drops, and berms I've never seen before. I'm looking forward to doing it all again sometime :)

My route: Stagecoach > Upper Stagecoach > Stagecoach > Clementine > Lake Clementine Road > Foresthill Road > Foresthill Divide Loop > Connector > Culvert > Confluence

My numbers:

Total Mileage: 23.77 mi
Total Elevation: 5367 ft
Time: 2:47:08
