Do You Mountain Bike?

Well it's official. My 2008 mountain bikin' season ended May 10 with a detached rotator cuff on a warmup run for the CCCX DH race.

Went to see the dok today. He said minimum 6 months to 1 year before I should be be bak on a mountain bike. :( I pretty much expected it so no surprise but I still almost cried. :cry

Have fun yall.

PS. Anyone wanna hike up Diablo with me??? :wtf :teeth
Good xtraining. :thumbup

.

With 2 stops to look at the map (only my second time there) i ran a 45:56. Im pretty stoked with it. for really not knowing the trail what so ever, and all those little shitty switchbacks that sneak up on you, im happy.
We went Sat. and it was the same deal, a few groups going ccw and pushing through on the decent. Bad etiquette for sure, but I know I've done it a couple of times too.

Did a 8 mile hike at 10,000ft (2000' gain) Sun. somewhere in the Inyo National Forest, felt like 16 miles in the sand. So I got fried legs too, oh yeah on top of my looped wheelie at Tamarancho.

I'm ready for just a movie and a beer.

I only have one week left here, but a Diablo hike probably would have worked well to prepare me for the Tahoe City Xterra race.

How long til you can get on a road bike again?

Right now looking like 2 - 3 months

170mm crank arms

I'm considering going to a 170mm crankset on my XC bike - a Stumpjumper FSR. My Giant road bike and my Cannondale AM bike both use 170mm cranksets, and the Stumpjumper currently has a bit of a clearance problem - it currently has a 175mm crank set, so I'm thinking the 170mm crank set might help with that.

Anyone know the most affordable way to deal with this? Since it's my XC race bike, I'd like for it to be reasonably light. Since I'm probably not going to be employed for the next year, I'd like for it to be reasonably priced.

According to the Specialized website, it currently has a Custom Shimano Hollowtech crank with an Octalink XT spline.

Would it be possible to just replace the crankarms?

Is a Shimano Deore LX M582 crankset (907g) as good as what I have on there?

How about one of these?

Won't really know 'till tomorrow. Hiked for about 2:30. Worked out for about another 2 and stretched for about :30. All I can say is right now my whole body is unhappy. :(

"There's Gonna Be Drugs Tonight!" :teeth

What's the clearance problem? If it's your race bike then go light as you can.

I found this on ridemonkey.com Guy is selling an XT 170mm crankset.

Threshold/VO2 max testing anyone?

I met a nice woman not long ago when working at Sportsbasement. She does VO2 Max/Aerobic threshhold testing. It was about $75 per person and you kept the mask so it would be cheaper for later re-evaluation.
This kind of info is important if you are using a HR monitor. Also good for evaluating your current fitness level.
We could have a party at Sportsbasement in Walnut Creek. They would provide food and beer if the crowd is big enough.

Friday night repair shop.

Have some work to do in the garage for a few friends and Barfers, so if anyone needs some tuning or set up work, bring your stuff over. Garage opens at 6:30. :ride

I will probably have a couple stands set up, and I might try and talk my one armed buddy (harpo) into helping out.:thumbup

As a side note: There is a very real possibility that one of Joe's body parts might actually fall off. Could be very entertaining:laughing

If I wasn't going to D'ville... BTW, do you work on fork seals and such?

That's why we wear one piece leather suits on the moto, ... :wtf ... So when the parts do fall off you don't loose them. :twofinger

Unfortunately bicycle riders haven't evolved that far yet, but you can bet your "missing left arm" that after a few more parts disappear into the forest that we too (bicycle riders) will also develop some type of retention system so that when we get to the hospital (but not before finishing a few more dh runs) all the partts are still there for reattachment. :twofinger X 10

PS. I should be able to make it. ...Oh wait, let me check my schedule, ... Well it seems I might be going back to work in 3 or 4 months, .... sooooooooo, I guess I can fit it in. :wtf See you there. I'll be one with a sling in one hand and a bottom bracket tool in the other. :mstingray

Aww...too bad. I've heard such great things about these open garages. Alas I will be in Tahoe on Friday, next time though
