Do You Mountain Bike?

IIRC, Ryan's loop at Tamarancho was 44:-- :loco:wtf

Was he ever able to time a loop? Last I remember, he tried to time a loop and the battery on his Garmin died.

Official or not, 44 sounds very reasonable for someone with that kind of leg power...

51:18 at Tamarancho today :teeth No dabs either! First time to not unclip once the entire loop and on top of that I dropped even more time. Next week with a fresh start I'm hoping for under 50 :) Gonna have to go on a weekday though, way too many riders on the weekend and none of them have any courtesy!

We were out there too - I don't think I've ever seen so many riders going the "other way" at Tamarancho that we did that day. Getting off my bike and breaking my flow that many times to let others by would just bug me - I can't imagine people willingly going the counterclockwise route during peak hours!

Some are leaving Friday morning to ride in the afternoon... others are leaving Friday evening riding Sat and Sun. Not sure which group I'm leaving with yet... depends on the work week. Let me know if you want in for sure. L8r. :cool

Shit, I hope I can make it out again this year :(

It's not too bad. We're driving up Friday morning to do N* and then staying in Truckee and then driving to Downieville Sat morning.

Well, lets just say I had to make some er......"creative lines" to not stop my flow :laughing I managed to not unclip once the whole time! But luckily I did manage to avoid a lot of the riders somehow but still crossed at least 10-15 of them the whole run.

The biggest problem was groups of squids coming downhill while I was going up and having them not try to pull over for me, fuckers. I went to China Camp on saturday with my g/f and had to yell at a few people for nearly running her off the trail while we were going uphill and they were going DH. Ah the joys of weekend trail riding :thumbdown

I'm going to break 50 minutes though no matter what!, so you better find some time :twofinger

We were there from about 6Pm-8PM pretty late, I yelled at some dude because his squid g/f came flying down and nearly clipped my g/f. I told him he outta tell his woman to have some respect for people going uphill. He was cool about it. If you're a 40+ pretty big kinda outta shape looking white guy maybe it was you? :laughing

I do have an interesting story though; while we were on the flat section right after the initial climb, where it gets pretty rocky my g/f was in the lead with me following. I heard a lot of rustling up in the bushes above me and looked up and saw a heard of deer running at full pace through the bushes above. As soon as I stopped they came barreling through jumping off of the hillside above onto our trail and down to the next ravine. One nearly took out my front wheel, lucky I stopped in time! The other one jumped OVER my g/f and almost kicked her in the head! These were some straight kamikaze deer! :wtf :wtf I saw the looks in their eyes and I swear it looked like they were running for their lifes. They were in a big fookin rush!

In hindsite I wouldn't be suprised if they were running from a mountain lion as it was near dusk about 7PM. Scared the crap outta us!

My legs are still kinda fried from that Century ride - if my legs were fresh, I'd have been out there at 6 AM this morning to counterattack!

I figure it'll be at least a week til my legs are in any condition to go for it - optimally, I'd probably wait three weeks. Then again, the Howell Mountain Challenge XC race in Angwin is next weekend...

What are you guys doing this weekend?

We hit Skyline in Napa... or maybe Tamarancho - I think. :)

ooo....my girlfriend and I are doing N* on Friday and Downieville on Sat. We're on the 10am shuttle with Yuba Expeditions. Maybe we'll see you all out there!

We're gonna try to get on the 10AM YE shuttle too. See ya there!!

You guys have fun on your bikes, I'm gonna be busy for a while :)

BTW; I-Drive Rocks! :twofinger

After all the hype about tamarancho times, i felt i needed to go out and see how i squared up. When i arrived at work today, my boss told me i was off at 11, due to cutting hours, so i figured it would be a perfect day to shoot out there and give it a shot.
There were very few people out there, ran into about 10? Seemed like a lot for a weekday. With 2 stops to look at the map (only my second time there) i ran a 45:56. Im pretty stoked with it. for really not knowing the trail what so ever, and all those little shitty switchbacks that sneak up on you, im happy. my second loop was a 49:12, and was def slower bc of fatigue. Now that ive done it, i really do not want to do it again. Its a sick place to trail ride, but why would anyone want to race the clock there (besides getting a base for training) ? Either way, i don't see how others can complain about people getting in their way and messing up their flow when they are riding a public place, on a weekend.

PS: whats the hype about i drive? or what makes it superior? I rode my 34 lb nomad with a single 36T chainring, and 30 inch wide DH bars (which sucked there BTW). vpp rocks!!:|

Only thing I was complaining about was the people going DH while I was going uphill. Was not complaining about others in the way at all. A lot of riders should be expected on a Sunday in the middle of the day. I was suprised actually that I didn't run into MORE people considering how packed the Java hut parking lot was.

And for whatever reason why you don't understand why the timed runs? Well I guess you wouldn't since you've only been there twice(understandably) . Its a popular local trail that many people ride a lot so after awhile you start to get interested in what kind of time you can run on it to guage your progress. It offers a bit of everything so it makes for a good guage to use for comparison. Plus its fun outdoing each other :teeth friendly competition is always good times! IIRC they hold an annual race there every year as well.

BTW nice time! Thats unreal! But I don't think anyone would of expected any less from you. I'd venture to say you're most likely the fastest guy in this thread

Oh and don't be talkin shit about the I DRIVE! :twofinger

Talked to Doug earlier this week but most likely won't make it up there this weekend.

Gonna try and make it up the weekend of the 16th/17th. Hopefully the new rig is ready by then.

Impressive times at Tamarancho:applause I'm sure you could easily drop several minutes with less stops and knowing the trail.
