Do "superlight" wheels / rims, like the www.notubes.com tubeless 347 Olympic wheelset at 1341 grams really make a big difference in your riding compared to regular 'ol heavy stuff?
Have you noticed a worthwhile performance difference?
Just curious, please comment!

Let's say, for example, doing the Sea Otter Classic XC race - one loop is about 19 miles -
What kind of time difference would you say it makes per loop? (I'm trying to justify getting at least a rear wheel, even though income-wise at the moment it's probably stupid)
... and then notubes claims you can run super low pressure, yet the rolling resistance remains the same? Doesn't make sense![]()

me is amateur for sure, I ride for exercise & fun ~ only averaging 3 1/2 hrs riding /week. I have done the Otter twice - '05, '08 in the amateur class, and finished - let's say towards the back of the pack with my older Jamis hardtail
What can I say, it's fun to browse for new parts with the promise of better results!
We explored the other trails at Annadel (after N. Burma) -- Live Oak, Rough Go and Cobblestone -- good stuff!!

Cody: How are those Spinergy's holding up..
I like adding that last extra bit that you did. Usually, most of the group I'm riding with is a little burned by that point.
The last few times I did it, I came across quite a bit of pedestrian traffic. Was it pretty clear when you guys did it?
I heard Cowboy Cody had a couple of rim / tire separation issues - maybe a higher PSI would prevent that from happening?

Mikey: We attempted to ride Ridge/Upper Steve's but ended up taking the detour towards Marsh at the first junction. Should we have kept climbing that singletrack into the hills and would that have eventually led us back to Marsh to S. Burma?![]()
I looked at your GPS trace - it looks like you missed a right turn after the Schultz climb, right after you went under the power lines. You went right into a perimeter trail that was pretty much straight, and took Ridge / Upper Steve's back towards Schultz, eventually putting you on the southeast end of Marsh.
Compare your route with this one. I put both Google Earth plots on one map to find where you missed it.

couple of tips for Otter if this is your first time there....this race is won in the climbs.....you can gain field position by:
1. getting ahead of the pack before trail 50 (singletrack) where it clogs bad (you can easily hit 45mph+ going down trail 11 before 50....find your line)
2. get used the the 'sand-surf' down trail 60...it can be squirrely
3. practicing the climb on trail 82 (a pain at race pace).
4. and the last grunt up the Skyline fire road (where most are blown-up by then)...put it in your big ring and hammer!
of course this only makes sense if the course is the same as the past few years..
have fun!....get some practice loops in.....

I might preride the course this SaturdayThen we'll see if I wanna race it
