POSSIBLE EV?

Complete with fake ICE rumble. :rolleyes

I love Challengers but that thing is at first quick look awful close to Camaro looking territory. :thumbdown I think they should have updated the current car a bit and not go all left field with it. People who buy Challengers don't care about range we want looks and pedal to the metal.

THANK YOU!!!

I understand the DoT recently banned custom e-car sounds, they want a uniform sound for those aforementioned visually impaired types to acclimate to as more EV's hit the streets....

No, I also care about range. You are right, it is probably 3rd on that list of priorities, but it does matter.

If I cannot drive to San Diego in a similar amount of time to an ICE, I am not super interested.

Well not sure you are going to get EV to go ~500 miles on one charge I think the highest is around 400 right now I think could be wrong though.

But biggest complaint is that car is called a charger but they tried for a mashed up Challenger/Charger/Road Runner and it wound up looking like a Camaro. Epic fail but I can see with a few body mods it could be back in righteous Challenger territory.

Why would they discontinue their most popular selling car? That’s a big gamble. The Charger is their second best seller next to their minivan.

The fake “revving” they were doing at the launch event was utterly ridiculous. That said, I don’t mind a bit of fake noise inside and out. It adds to the sense of speed. The Taycan’s spaceship-like noise is very well suited. This futuristic auto tuned sounding fake V8 thing that Dodge just did…not so much. They said up to 126db. Really? 126 of bullshit? At least they’re continuing the tradition of every V6 Challenger I come across having some garbage sounding straight piped exhaust.
The entire launch event was cringy as fuck.

I like the look of the concept, It has a lot of elements that harken back to the 1969 charger that work, at least for me. With that being said, the revving sounded like absolute garbage, legit, if I got one I'd unplug that speaker before I accepted that I'd have to listen to that tinny sounding noise. I'm actually pretty stunned that they pushed that so hard as a selling point.

Also, I know that they are terrified that their fan base will revolt at not having a V8, but they legit sound like some insecure 17 year old trying to impress a high school crush and failing miserably. I honestly think that they would have been better off just showing the thing driving along with some cliché quote like 'New Boss. Same as the old Boss.'

Seemed appropriate for the subject... :laughing

The other car was a Camaro.

I keep getting notices of increased enforcement during car week...

Yeah, I mean, the Charger and Challenger aren't even sports cars, they are more of a Power Cruiser type deal, but nevertheless, they are fun as hell to drive and have a torque/power profile that really invites shenanigans.

StellaMtis.

To be fair though, Chrysler has really been just a shell of its former self for a couple decades now. They’ve been passed around like the town pump. Mercedes, Cerabus, and finally Fiat have all had a turn captaining that ship. With each leadership change, more fat gets trimmed off. Plymouth died a long time ago. There’s hardly anything left of actual Chrysler branded vehicles (Pacifica is it right?). The Dodge lineup is down to a skeleton crew. Soon it will just be Jeeps and Rams that will only be left. But looks like Stellantis will be the one who eventually takes one of the great “big three” out behind the barn and puts it out of its misery. Walter Chrysler spinning away in his grave.

So Dodge dealer mechanics will be working on an Alfa Romeo engine? :laughing

They and Jeep technicians already been working on Fiat Multiair engines for years now.

Which cars have it?

In know the Fiata has it but I assume Fiat dealers service those.

All the low end jeeps and all the ram vans are fiats...and probably a pain in the ass for all the techs. On the other hand i think fiat was smart to buy dodge/ram, as it was a currently standing american dealership network/parts network to walk right into.

hey rob how hard would it be to change the front on the Dodge to make it an Alfa.

Did not know that.

Hell of a way the change a reputation of unreliability with the Jeep brand.

In their most recent survey, US website, Consumer Reports, found Jeep to be one of the less reliable brands. In the list for “Worst car brands for 2019”, Jeep came 8th, with responsibility for this being laid at the feet of the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass, both of which placed poorly on the worst SUV for 2019 list.

Very hard.

So let’s take something I know very well. Volkswagen’s MSB platform, or in Porsche-speak, the 971. This Platform currently spawns the Panamera, and also the Be they Continental and Flying Spur. And a highly modified version of MSB spawns the J1 which is the Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT.

Let’s say you, for whatever wild reason, wanted to make your new Panamera look like a Continental. Using all OE parts? Absolutely not possible. While they share powertrains, suspension, subframes, electrical system architecture, and some other parts, there is a major difference between them. The unibody. Most vehicles these days are unitized frame construction. The only part of it “frame” you typically see is the roof, A/B/C/D pillars, and rear quarter panels. All other body parts like doors, hood, trunk, front fenders, and bumpers bolt on to the frame structure just beneath them.

The position of the frame structure for where these parts bolt up is different between a unibody of one model versus another. So the body parts are not interchangeable.

Different story on something that shares the same positions where fender and bumper supports are. Something like putting and Escalade front end on a Silverado? That’s not terribly hard to do because they essentially share the same frame underneath.

Now if you were a very good fabricator and know how to actually make fenders and so on? You could do what you ask on just about anything. Though the Charger is physically bigger, you could just kind of fabricate your own body parts and expand the proportions a bit from an Alfa Giula and make the swap. The end product would just look like a real life bad photochop.
