from this angle it looks like a desmo =)
It doesn't work to just take UK bike prices and convert them directly to USD, bikes in genereal are more expensive over there plus the list prices include value added tax and general sales tax
for example UK price for an R1 is £13,899 or $22,230
From a marketing perspective, in the US Ducati will want to keep the entry level 1199 a few hundred dollars under the $15K psychological threshold
from this angle it looks like a desmo =)

"it’s safe to say the front end problems affecting the GP bike will not carry over to the 1199 just because they both utilize monocoque chassis design..."
Is this in fact a monocoque chassis? If so, what is it made of?
aluminum... or, for the Brits "al you min eee um"
I am confused.
For MotoGP, Duc has just admitted that it has completely abandoned its ill handling carbon fiber frame technology and has adopted an almost conventional Al spar arrangement for MotoGP in 2012.
This just in time for the grand launch of its carbon fiber framed street bike.![]()
