Dunkin' Donuts opens in Walnut Creek

When I got to a Mexican restaurant, I judge them by how they do green enchiladas.

When I go to a donut joint, I expect to find a blueberry donut. Most fail.

And as far as Psycho Donuts (never been) sounds like an imitation of Voodoo Donuts in Portland. Very famous for taking crap breakfast cereal and slammin it on a donut. Not impressed and we bought two dozen. To me, it's a go-there-one-time-to-see-what-all-the-fuss-is-about place.

The Psycho Donuts in Santa Clara is actually replacing a Fractured Prune donut shop that was in the same space. Fractured Prune's gimmick was fresh made cake donuts and then they dip the top in some kind of sugary glaze/chocolate/whatever, then sprinkle a whole variety of different things on the top. In all honesty, a plain cake donut was the best thing I got out of there.

I have never been to a Psycho Donuts, but from what I understand, it's pretty much the same gimmick yes?

I do enjoy me some bacon sprinkled on a maple bar....

Funny, that's exactly how I feel about Krispy Kreme. :laughing

To this day one of the best donut places I've been to in the east bay is Lee's over on Davis in San Leandro. Mom-and-pop shops trump corporate chains every time IMO. :thumbup

Oh don't get me wrong, I think they're both equally bad. Biting into a KK donut is like stuffing a teaspoon of sugar into your mouth. You can do it, but why??

Nothing beats semi home made.

Take biscuit dough from the cardboard tubes. Make a hole in the middle. Fry in oil. Dust with powdered sugar. Donut holes and donuts.

Haha +1. At my house this is known as Westie's celebrity donut roast.

Munchkin's rule. DD is the only franchise that Starbucks fears...

The Bay Area's first Dunkin' Donuts is now open. With more to come.

Hell, it is just as likely I will get back East to be in one than get to Walnut Creek, but still...

Come out Mike, I'll buy...

Saw an online dating profile tonight, a girl was at the Dunkin' Donuts grand opening and already has it as her profile photo. :)

Timbits yo!

Exxxxxcelent (Mr. Burns voice as he rubs his fingers together). They are actually getting hard to find. I'll be in Rhode Island on Monday....I wonder if that's too California for them.....

World Fair Donuts on Hesperian and A in Hayward. My father in law has been going there for at least 35 years.

you too Fred...I gotcha Munchkins!

Went to one in Chicago. Not impressed. Seemed like the Taco Bell of coffee.

That's exactly what they turned into.... donut sales are now like 10% of their profit. The rest of the money comes from their gross sandwiches and coffee drinks. 10-15 years ago each store made their donuts fresh and coffee was made every few minutes in regular pots. It was fantastic! Now, the donuts are typically made in a central location and shipped to the stores, thus they're never super fresh. The rapid growth also has resulted in a ton of shitty franchises. But, they are still super profitable because people don't go there for the donuts anymore (which is also why they won't be like Krispy Kreme).

Interestingly, here in Tucson AZ there are a few that still make they're own donuts. They are so freaking good. The family that owns the one I go to still works there every day, so it's always clean and the service is great.

Grew up in a small town and we had 4 dunkin'. It's not good, it's just an east coast staple. I won't be going out of my way for anything they make.
