Fancy bluetooth noise canceling headphones

My QC35s do a pretty good job at getting rid of background conversations. Last plane ride I took...I usually wouldn’t put them on till we’re in the air. But I had two ladies going full yenta behind me, blathering on about their kids or some shit. So I put the cans on and tuned them right out before we even pushed off.

Sound quality, Sony is better. But Bose’s noise cancelling is truly second to none.

What's "going full yenta" mean?

But with these extra "waves" it's producing, would you truly be reducing noise, or just creating more to cover it? The reason I ask is, I don't want to damage my ears any more than they already are.

Also, are those Audio-Technica's not any good?

Does not damage your ears. I was wondering about this as well, but after 4-6 hours on the tractor with the fan sprayer, you will get a headache from all the noise, with noise-cancelling, no issues.

Timely as I'm also considering the QC35s. Tried them on at Best Buys and liked them better than the Sony. Bose's all day comfort is hard to beat.

Hmm, will have to stop by best buy. All day comfort is a good thing.

I have the Bose over ear and in ear Bluetooth NC headphones and they're both great. I prefer the in ear though. Both totally eliminate outside noise when you want to.

My wife has the in ears. I think the noise cancelling is better on hers. But the over ears have at least twice the battery life.

The 180 out waves actually cancel out, so there is nothing. The original sound and the new one are both gone.

If you have every watch ocean waves bounce off a sea-wall you can sometimes see the same effect, or waves joining into even larger waves.

Basically, magic.

There is a microphone in each ear piece. It receives the sound your ear is experiencing and then the electronics reproduces that sound 180 out of phase. It cancels out the noise, not masks it. Bose got their noise cancellation start in aviation. They're used all over aviation and the military in high noise environments.

Yup. And I'd encourage every person in this thread to send a similar email as I did to Bose asking that they take the comfort and noise cancelling of the QC35s and put them into a motorcycle helmet. Something similar to the CVCs they make for the military but with the quality of sound and stuff as the QC35s. Forget smart helmets, just give me good bluetooth and noise canceling and music / GPS directions and I'm good.

I use Bose at work. Started with Aviation X, now have the A20. Nothing compares to them. Nothing even comes close. The quality, the fit and finish, the customer support.

On day one, I had what I thought was a problem with my X's. Plugged them into the airplane, and the mic didn't work. Called Bose, and the next day aired me another set. Turns out, the airplane mic jack was messed up. After 8 years of everyday service, things wear out, and the cable was breaking down (4500'ish hours of use). I sent them in for service. They came back to me with a new cable, new ear seals, new head band, new inner sound screens, and a new carry bag. All I was charged for was the new cable. I come across a lot of guys who use Bose, everyone has similar stories. Bose makes a great product, and has probably the best customer support in the industry.

So the consensus is, Bose sound only average? I can't believe Sony could possibly sound any better. Sony is known for artificially boosting the bass, like Beats.

I've never heard a pair of noise cancelling that sounded as good as a legit pair of cans. Comparing X noise cancelling to Y in regards to audio quality is a moot point for me. Bose were the most comfortable and had the best noise cancelling out of the pack for me.

Regarding Beats, they have a very powerful market presence due to marketing/celebrity endorsement. Most folks are buying them because they don't know better or want to look cool.

I have had the Bose QuietComfort for a long time. It scares me that I can't get replacement batteries for it. I have used them without any music on planes and ships, and they definitely work as advertised. I think my Audio Technica head phones, are my best for sound, but they are professional studio sets ........ I bought for professional studio work. :laughing

While the Bose are a little warm after wearing for several hours, they are comfortable for phones that don't go around your ear. They sit on the ear, not around it. You are sacrificing some comfort and noise cancelation, for convenience. It's a fair trade. I trust Bose for small speakers, so I would buy Bose again, if I must replace these Quiet Comforts.

So I think it comes down to comfort vs sound. Leaning towards QC35 since wearing it in the office all day comfort is very important.

The ear cups on those Bose are butter smooth and soft. If comfort is the top priority, as soon as you feel those you’re gonna be plunking down $350.

What do you mean artificially? dB is higher for lower frequencies?

afaik there's no dB reference standard for music stuff like there is with movies. So there's a lot of music that's recorded at a very high dB, like rap and pop music. If that's the kind of music you listen to and you typically listen to it at lower dB levels a boost in the lower frequencies will probably make the music sound more like it's "supposed" to.

As for it being built into the headphone, sure, it's kinda dumb. But most people are just hooking these things up to their iphones and not bothering or not able to adjust the eq
