Flight Attendants

Flying sucks anymore, period. Hard to single out. It just seems like the whole profession is burned out, on the flights I have taken. And yeah, they have all been domestic. I usually get trim athletic male attendants on the way back to SFO, tho. Haven't seen a single fat one, male or female.

I just think commercial airline travel has become a low-profit business that has lost its way. And customers suffer for the dispirit. Maybe foreign airlines are still trying? That's all I can glean from this.

passenger with attitude + flight attendants with attitude = another barf post

Perhaps with frequent flyers. When i travel, it's for pleasure. I want to have a good time. Can't say about OP. I have had a few attendants with attitude that was undeserved, but it was just mildly unpleasant, not outright rude. Sort of like they were angry in general and were just being polite enough to be professional. To me, it's just part of the subtext of anger I see everywhere, and for which we had an unpleasant exchange on another thread.

Flying sucks because the terrorists won.... they, the terrorists, have changed how we do things.

Combine that with their (probably well-honed) read that this dude was a sex tourist coming back from banging a lot of Thai prostitutes, and you have a full explanation for the disdain. :laughing

Bingo. Off to Thailand to feel like a King, and come back and some thoughtless FA knocks him off his cloud. :rofl:rofl

I think I'm the only one who thinks flying is just fine. It doesn't suck at all
Not sure how old you are, Kev. It's really, really changed over the years to the negative. Yes, so have many things, but its still a basic formula: put ya on the big bus, fly from point A to point B, give you a few distractions and meet basic needs. It seems like a controllable situation, no matter how times change.

I will edit this in in fairness. The single biggest annoyance to me, that has changed, is the increased volume of carry-on luggage and ensuing scramble to stuff it all overhead. I carry a messenger bag that fits under the front seat. Maybe a coat or hat. Period. The idea of "I'll carry just enough in case they lose my luggage" or "dammit, I don't wanna check anything" is solidly the customers fault.

OP needs to ride in 1st Class more. Get greeted by name and everything.

"Would you like another glass of Champaign Mr. wazzuFreddo?"

:twofinger

Nice to see you back, bragging and gloating about yourself and how you are using up the taxpayers hard earned dollars again. :thumbup

I'm too young to have enjoyed some sort of "golden age" that you old peeps must be referencing. :p

But I DID get the little wing stickers, those were badass! Too bad those aren't around anymore. You get a complimentary strip search instead. :laughing

No you don't, its a new day...

A new era.... :laughing

Key words there that should be used across the board. Degeneration of women...as a whole, not just one, or two, or even a thousand. The fact that he's referencing the women of one specific region and one specific employment type, and not the women of all regions regardless of employment, would indicate that his complaint is not specifically with women. His complaint contains three elements: America, flight attendants, and women. People are too quick to be selectively offended and throw labels around. In order to use the word misogyny, there needs to be a common denominator...women...and we don't have that here. Might as well ask him why he hates America.

Having read enough of the garbage posted by the OP in the years he's been littering up the forum, I'm perfectly comfortable in assigning the term "misogynist" to him. He has nothing positive to say about the majority of women.

My Mom did 43 years as a flight attendant for United.

Flight attendants will Always do good for you if you are polite and not "demanding what I paid for!"

Seems that concept is lost on some people...

Agreed. I may not do a lot of flying... but I've never come across a mean or rude FA. But to me, they have a kind of tough job, so I always try to be friendly, and appreciative of anything they do to make my flight better. A little appreciation goes a long way. Seems to me they don't get nearly enough from the majority of people on the plane. And I guarantee you, OP's interactions with his FA's would have been condescending as hell.
He's lucky he only got hip-checked... they should've used the cart... :laughing

No no no... Thai Ladyboys....

Not so long ago you'd be strapped onto a wagon behind a couple of mules for months at a time to get across the country. A few rude flight attendants don't bother me nearly as much as the numerous spoiled brats populating the world these days.

+1. It seems like a terrible job (then again, many are). They fly the same legs, put in long days (round trips), and deal with pretty typical douchebags. Passengers do seem worse now, using their phones despite the "turn off" announcements, getting up when the seat belt light is on, etc.

In my experience, if you are respectful and polite, you tend to get treated that way in return (pretty amazing concept, I realize...). If a certain attendant is being rude or having a bad day, you can contact the airline after the flight.

Eye candy is nice, but when did we come to expect that attendants would all be trim and young? They are just service personnel who happen to work in an airplane.

OMG! I just agreed with Rel.

What's next? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria?

Classic Barf Thread, random social observation to Ladyboys in 70 posts. Longer than usual, maybe.

The striking thing to me, looking back on 45 years of traveling a LOT. Is that 'once upon a time' travel was a bit special and people acted (and dressed) with some awareness and respect.

This has largely dissappeared all around - but generally moreso on the part of The General Public. Not to unfairly mock My Fellow Citizen, but by and large they are a staggeringly slovenly, idiotic, craven mass - a portion of which deserve a good Tazing.

But yeah, there are some haggard FAs up there in the Friendly Skies wishing that the pilot's joke about the passengers being referred to as SLC on flight documents was only true. ( SLC = Self Loading Cargo )

Used to know an adorable FA with Continental named Julie, wonder whatever became of her...and that nutty blonde MILF named Cindy* that worked on United...

But nevermind that.

Should Service Industry Employees have to Man The Fuck Up and at least TRY to be pleasant ? Yes. I know it can be Hell to conjure a smile from the grimmace you feel sometimes but it's the gig you picked (if you are doing it of your own free will) so don't scowl and bash your way through our 5-hour crosscountry sojourn. Most have been pretty good to me over the years, but the ever-denser flights must be tough.

By-the-way, I recall that over a decade ago Fiji, or perhaps it was Samoa Airlines ( now both defunct, I believe ) had some press blow-up over a rule requiring thier FAs to be under a lithe 175# or so - (Airline relented) - makes me wonder if they have weight requirements in the US carriers anymore. Personally I think you should pay by the pound for everything you put on the plane, and limiting the size of aircrew is reasonable.

There was a recent story here about the County Lifeguards - despite being Unionized like The Police, had an ongoing fitness requirement/test while The Police did Not.

Let's face it, commercial airtravel is little different from taking a train or bus anymore, except for the security theatre.

* classic Cindy story; (and there are a bunch) despite having no doubt poured HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of drinks over the years, honestly had No Idea how to make a drink without just dumping the whole (little) bottle in.

Sadly, that is A: No longer how our society works, and B: no longer taught to our children.

its to bad because how you treat other people is a reflection on you. maintain some dignity, respect, and carry yourself like a man.

this guy is bitching because some chick bumped his arm? quit being such a pussy.
