Foam ear plugs trick

I think they just spit on them in Brazil. Anytime I see video from Brazil there's spitting.

Foam ear plugs get dirty, cause ear infections,

Says who? :dunno Site your source.

I've been using them for at least 10 years and I've never had an ear infection. Again, mine last at least a month. I hate the ones you posted they fall out as soon as I try to put my helmet on.

I've tried every possible type of ear plug including a 12 dollar jell type that I had to trim down and they still weren't as good as the foam ones I use.

If you guys are having problems with ear plugs, you better skip riding the motorcycle. :twofinger

:laughing I came back to this thread just to post the same thing.

This thread really should have a Warning for industrial Workers that wear ear plugs all day every working day.

Cause, they are in danger of laughing uncontrollably and passing out.

Maybe you're using a different sequence in the afternoon ?

If I don't insert the left one first, they never seem to work right :dunno

Can someone help me out and start a thread that explains how Earplug A is different for Earplug B?
Anybody? Anybody? Anyone knows someone that could do this?

Earplug A:

What's an industrial worker's take on the topic?

Aren't you worried about ear infections?

Foam ear plugs get dirty, cause ear infections

Never had ear infections for as long as I remember. In any case I wasn't talking about getting the plugs so wet that liquid would drain into the ears. Just moist.

Like I said this observation is over time. I tried different sequences, tugged at the ears differently, but still couldn't find a consistent pattern. I do have more trouble with my right ear than left (again, more often in the afternoon), and I attribute that to the left hand-right hand angle, and perhaps the shape of the left/right ear canals are slightly different.

Earplug A is like a SV650 - good for the money, but may not appeal to snobs.

Earplug B is like a 675 - looks good (to some people), costs more, doesn't work for everybody. :twofinger

Since I only have 1 Earplug B (not like some with multiple earplugs :x), I'll plug in my right ear so I don't have to hear the whining :cry from the SV650 I'm passing! :p

What brand/model is that? Where do you get it?

They look an awful lot like the Howard LEIGHT Max-1.

My favorite too (NRR 33/ SNR 34 )

before I lost my job, i was working in a metal shop. I got new plugs everyday but over lunch I would just rotate my earplugs so i got the "fresh" side. I wore mine 8 hours a day though

these things are awesome: http://www.coopersafety.com/product/e-a-r-push-ins-with-grip-rings-corded-200-pairs-1673.aspx
roll them btw thumb and forefinger, pull up on top of ear while tilting head to side to insert, and hold for 10+ sec to allow them to expand into shape (box says 30 sec, but I found 10 is sufficient). They work great. The blue cord is really handy...means you can take them out at a water break point and not lose them. I wear a set for a week or so or until they start looking a little dirty. One box will last you years and years of daily use.

I used to use the cheapo kinds but they never really stayed in well for me.

Never had an ear infection.

There is the landfill issue...

The Howard Leight mushroom foam ear plugs (bought from CVS per VFRweasel) turned out to be way quieter than the Moldex Pura-Fit 6800 I normally use, even though they have the same noise reduction rating of 33 db. It seems the way the mushroom flares out on the tail end provides a great seal. I felt the difference as soon as I put them in, and I had the quietest rides ever last night and this morning. The wind roar and engine were much more muted, and I could barely hear other vehicles on the freeway as I passed them. The extra quietness is a little disorienting (from the extra hearing-sensory deprivation), like watching a silent movie, but I think I can get used to it quickly. They also feel good, so overall I like them a lot. I’m a little doubtful that they would remain effective for a month (seems too good to be true), but we’ll see.

I use corded Laser Lite plugs:
http://www.howardleight.com/earplugs/laser-lite

If ear plugs made of foam are warm, foam becomes softer and the tip of the ear plug tends to crumple during insertion. As a result the ear plug is not sealing properly. I always had this problem in my left ear. :dunno

Moistening the tip of the compressed/rolled ear plug did the trick. Also pulling your external ear (pinna/auricle?) backwards during insertion helps a lot. :thumbup

Looks stupid, sounds stupid but keeps your ears in check. :x
