Freaking Apple store

The retina screen has nothing to do with photo editing, etc.. Just reading text will make a huge difference!

Hmm...I disagree. 2560 by 1600 > 1440 by 900 all day when it comes to using Photoshop, Final Cut X, etc.

Reading this thread and felt the need to tell you that this just showed up in the mail today. :laughing

What I meant is that you don't need to use PS, FCPX in order to take advantages of having a retina screen or anything high resolution for that matter.

My phone is 2560x1440 resolution, and it's glorious!

So...went back to the Apple Store...and swapped out the Air for a Macbook Pro w/retina :D

New MBP sitting on top of my older Macbook (Late 2008)

2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
128GB PCIe-based flash storage

Yes, that screen is awesome. Much happier with this purchase despite the smaller HD compared to the MBA. Without adding any files or other apps, it has 101GB of free space. I have 14 days to exchange it if I really don't think 128GB of space will work. But I think I'll be fine. I'm okay with that because all my pics and music is on the iMac and backup drive.

I brought my old Macbook for comparison and seeing how the new MBPr is much lighter and thinner pretty much sold me on it. So what if it's 0.5lbs heavier than the MBA. It's not really that big of deal considering the vastly better screen and processor compared to the MBA. 9hrs of battery life instead of 12hrs...I'm never that far away from an outlet anyway. And I use my iPad to watch movies on long plane flights.

I honestly wasn't THAT excited about the MBA for the 10 days I had it. Overall I'm glad I switched out.

What exactly are you doing that the MBA couldn't keep up with it's processor? :dunno

My MBA is 100 times faster than my 2009 MBP was.

Your new machine is much faster than your 5 year old MBP? SHOCKING! Going from any Core 2 Duo to a Core i5 was a vast bump in processing power. In addition, flash storage is always going to be quicker than the platter HD your MBP had. So OF COURSE it's going to be way faster than your old machine.

In this case, the benefit of moving to the Pro was the screen. It was only a small price difference from the MBA to this MBPr despite the smaller flash drive.

After yesterday's announcement of a slight refresh, I looked at the MBPr again. IMO, unless you are really hard press for weight savings, the 13" isn't as compelling as the 13" MBPr. And of course, that's just my opinion after this recent experience with the MBA.

And yes, it's faster and also it was cheaper when I bought it three weeks ago than my MBP was in 2009. :|

Believe me, went back-and-forth of this over the last two days. We will see if I have any regrets over the next 14.

Where is the Freaking Microsoft store thread?

Oh wait.....

I can't get rid of MacAfee, Dell, automatic updates that won't STFU, turning on a computer that doesn't have any internet connection whatsoever keeps telling me there are updates required, and about 478 other preinstalled items on my PC that are a pain in the ass that need to go away. No Geniusues at the Microsoft store.

Hello Bill? I need some help with your OS....

So new MBA and MBP still have GEN4 CPUs. Meh. I want 14nm biches!

Boot time:
MBA - about 11 seconds
MBP w/retina - about 7 seconds

45 seconds to boot time for the iMac...IT'S GONNA BE SO FRUSTRATING!
LOL

They're saying mid to late 2015 now. That's your people, you go talk to them and tell them we demand Broadwell nao!

Latest delays + refresh + back to school discount...I don't REALLY need one I don't think but I do want a new 15". Apple store just replaced literally everything but the motherboard in my old 2008 MBPr though so I added an SSD and it's pretty much brand new again and works fine for everything I do web browsing/coding wise.

They didn't have a MBPr in '08 :)
