Go Pro VS Contour HD

I used the suction mount.

looks like this

Can you really trust the suction mount to not fling your camera off into the abyss of a canyon you will inevitably be driving next to?

I think you would be surprised how strong that suction mount is. I use it and I swear my front fairing would crack before that thing lets go. With that being said, I don't let it stick off the side of my bike, its tucked under my dash behind my wind screen. I always have a some sort of secondary attachment to the camera, just in case. I would rather be safe than sorry.

Thread resurrection...for "behind windscreen" mounting, is everyone just using the suction cup? Finally looking at buying one of these and could have sworn I saw a gas cap mount somewhere for the gopro?

Specifically for the GoPro? No.

There are plenty of manufacturers who make a camera mount for your gas cap.

All you need with the GoPro (or any other standard camera) is their tripod adapter, which will adapt the proprietary GoPro mount to a standard female tripod mount.

The camera standard is the same as GoPro, Contour, Chasecam, ETC - 1/4" 20 TPI.

I've got a Contour HD 1080p that I acquired recently. I like the controls; from what I've seen of the GoPro it's a little difficult to use with gloves.

I haven't been able to compare video quality yet, but one notable difference is the GoPro has more of a fisheye effect, if that's what you like.

I picked the Contour mostly because of the controls and the tube package design.
+1

Not quite. I swear I've seen one that bolts into the front 3 or 4 of the gas cap bolts, like a little crescent moon mount.

edit - found it

Anyone have any experience with these? Should work fine with a GoProHD yeah?

I have the gas tank mount for cameras. I love the angle, however i have to use my OLD ass Hi8 video camera because my V-Twin vibrates so damn much my digital one freaks out and shuts down :rofl

I'm about to buy one of these and have been on the fence on which one to get, but I think I'm going with the GoPro due to the vibration issue. In comparing videos on each site, I prefer the ones on the GoPro site to the Contour. I just like the picture better and they seem to have less bounce as well. Don't think you can go wrong with either one though.

One reason I like the GoPro better is the ability to set it to take photos every couple seconds instead of video, you can get some great stills from that.
