Golden State Warriors 2017-2018

Heading out this afternoon for a multi-day backpacking flyfishing trip with my Dad. Likely going to miss the game on Sunday afternoon, but that's OK.

Do me a favor and cheer for the Cavs while I'm gone!

yeah sure thing...

So, Rockets - 2 in game 1. Sounds about right. I'd think games in Oakland would be GSW -4 or 4.5 (so, GSW clearly seen as favorite).

It's odd. I think the Cavs win the East, but for whatever reason, think Boston would give the West winner a better series. Not sure why I think that.

GSW i think lost 6 of 7 games where vegas had them as underdogs this year.

Before or after they had 2nd seed wrapped up?

Warriors were cruising the 2nd half of the season. Draymond is a different animal in the playoffs. He's going to frustrate the hell out of Harden when he drives to the whole.

CP3 is too old and slow for the Warriors. Can't wait to see him get cooked. I don't see him scoring more than 25 in a game.

Clint Capela concerns me. I don't know who guards him. Draymond if the start the Hamptons 5? Maybe. Maybe Javale who can keep up with him athletically.

I'm biased, but...have you been watching CP? He has made huge shots, has no problem penetrating, etc. The Rockets run a LOT of PnR. I think you really underestimate him (wasn't a big CP fan coming into this season, mostly have flopping, but he has turned me).

For the Rockets, I think it's the "role players" who will be key. PJ Tucker and Mbah a Moute have to have some good offensive games and limit whoever they are guarding. Gerald Green needs to have at least two good shooting games, and Harden can't have more than 1 off night (obviously will be a loss).

Draymond Green might be a better defender than most, but what will he do about Harden's 3s, step backs, etc.? Definitely agree about Capela, he MUST dominate, meaning energy every play, blocks, good picks, aggressive rebounding and finishing, etc. (all things he has been doing recently).

I'll go with GSW in 7, but would not be surprised if the Rockets win. At all.

.

well, they did come back from 20+ vs CP and the clippers, without durant iirc so...

everyone is saying the warrriors are going to make this look easy. I disagree. I'm honestly concerned that some goon is going to go after curry and take him out. If Houston does that, they have a great chance at advancing. if they play straight-up...oof it's gonna be a grind.

w's in 7

Um check cp3 4th quarter performance that guranteed him to go to western finals.

He carried them - not Harden.

Also I'm going game 3!!!!! Woot woot

Also green shud dominate defensively, harden aint as elusive as a curry

Who is the everyone saying it will be easy???

I listened to Steve Kerr last night on the radio and he described the game plan. The Rockets are one of the least mobile teams iat playoff level, they just have their great long three game and Harden's incredible ability to get fouled if you breathe his way. If the Dubs can a) disrupt whatever threes possible, b) stay disciplined to not foul Harden and c) not have one of the their patented crappy shooting nights, they should win. But I haven't heard anybody say it would be easy.

You can run circles around Harden, you just gotta not foul him. In playoff mode, the Dubs have shown speed and dexterity that is nearly incredible at times.

There was a pass-around near the beginning of the fourth quarter in the last game (against Pelicans) that was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw. They must have passed it six or seven times trying just to get a close shot in the paint, then finally did. It made the whole season of watching worth it. I don't know if it made anybody else's playoff highlights but it was stupendous.

If I was the Rockets, I'd just study and study the body language of Dubs as they begin passes to steal and disrupt as much as possible. The announcers kind of panicked when the Dubs stopped scoring in last part of Pels game, but to me, they were a) practicing their passing game and b) not getting hurt. They had the game and knew it.

Scottie Pippen explains how to stop James Harden. Last sentence was the best..."We've seen in playoffs in the past, if you take him out of his comfort zone, he'll quit."

Quite a few analysts are picking Warriors in 5, saying the series will be a disappointment, etc. Closer to home, YOU have said (and continue to imply) it will be easy!

You previously said this series "probably won't be a sweep" (how magnanimous of you!). Even in your above post, although there's some attempt to be impartial, it's:

Rockets least mobile, how so? Rockets' 3-game actually isn't that great, percentage wise, they just take a lot. Harden does draw fouls yes, but that's it? The guy is a top-5 player!

Dubs' "speed and dexterity," holy moly. I could go on. (Is GSW really that fast? They aren't as athletic as other teams, but they are AMAZING shooters and have a great passing offense).

In other words, it's all kool-aid, all the time, despite your superficial attempts at impartiality. :laughing

Personally, I think this will be the best series of the playoffs.

Houston had the best record in the NBA, they're no joke and pose a real threat to the Warriors who have been hot and cold this season. If Curry gets injured again, the scales would probably tip to the Rockets.

CP3 normally gets cooked by Curry and in the past I don't think he's ever had a big performance against the dubs. Either way He's not going to be the deciding factor. Klay on Harden most of the time will shut a fair portion of that down and cut the fouls Harden can draw. Klay also had a game against him where Harden had no Ft's. Harden's stats while guarded by Klay are very depressed compared to normal.

Capela and role players will decide Houstons play. I think for the warriors the question is how well does looney do against Capela, Gordon etc? and does Bell keep them honest as well? Backup guard Quinn Cook needs to perform as well. Small but critical bench contributions will probably be a big difference and set the tone so that the starters can pull away.

I'm drinkin Kool-Aid? HAHAHAHAHA. talk to ya soon. First you say everyone says it will be easy. That gets modified to many sportswriters. But nobody said easy, I don't think.

IF you don't think the Warriors are fast, then you don't watch their games, I can tell that. Their passing is spectacular but they sometimes get too fancy, which makes Coach Kerr crazy.

Fouls. How many fouls do the warriors rack up quickly. If the big 4 can stay out of foul trouble the Warriors are good.

Heard a stat that Klay per 30 or so matchups against harden only fouls him .8 times. I don't think he'll matchup 30 times in a game so that looks good on his part.

If Steph or Klay get 2 fouls in the 1st quarter that will be a problem.

that's exactly what Kerr was talking about. He says it requires extreme discipline because even five out of six times isn't good enough if Harden ends up at the foul line. On the Game yesterday.
