Golden State Warriors 2017-2018

It bums me out when sports look fixed. A Sports organization has a major credibility problem when bookies flip the odds upon the arrival of a referee, umpire or judge.

I'd offer it's because we are generally illogical, prone to believe in anecdote and circumstantial evidence (to put it generously), etc.

There have been very few true examples of fixing. But, one bad game, and NBA fans think the league is corrupt, refs are bought off, games are fixed, etc. etc. etc.

Listening at the same time. It does feel the NBA did this on purpose. Have Foster officiate and call a tight game early on, get Draymond a few early fouls. Gonna be interesting.

Kerr is 7-7 when Foster officiates a playoff game and I think 44-10 when it’s he’s not. That’s considerable.

Harden and Paul, two of the leagues biggest floppers and both in the 80% or higher from the free throw line so their near automatic when they get fouled.
It makes sense that the NBA would want the series to go for as many games as possible, also they would want the home team to win.

Corporate decisions like this have been made many times before, they're just a business at the end of the day.

But Climber, how hard would it be to fix games, live in front of 20k fans and broadcast worldwide? Is one additional game worth the reputation of a billion-dollar league? I get the sentiment, but think we are being irrational here.

LOL, the excuses begin! But seriously, I am EXCITED! Part of me is anxious and just hopes the Rockets don't get blown out, but man this is gonna be awesome!

it will be awesome for you because Harden will live at the foul line and Klay will probably be benched for too many fouls.

You can play the Pollyanna bit but the Foster phenom is real, not imagined.

The Warriors have probably a 30% chance of winning tonight no matter how well they play because its Harden and Houston. Otherwise it's 50% on the stats.

You can't play "clean" enough for Foster if you are a Warrior. It's obvious what the NBA is doing.

LOL...victims everywhere. There's some ref the Rockets' fans complain about (Tony Brothers? Can't remember), as there is with any fan base.

I'd ask for evidence, but even I realize that's a fool's errand.

Funny, I'm Pollyanna? I'm not the one complaining, in advance, about refs and making excuses for tonight's loss! :laughing:twofinger

But, they aren't 'fixing' the game, they are just influencing the outcome by who they chose to ref the game, that provides plausible deniability which is all that is needed. I'm sure that they had a whole background rationalization worked up in the event that they're asked about their choice as ref.

You don't think that they don't have discussions about how to make playoff games for profitable, what they can do to increase profits?

So, the NBA has a list of refs, as in which refs favor which teams? Think about that allegation for a second, and what it would mean for the league, if true.

Sure, they discuss increasing profits. You think that includes setting the number of games in a series, etc.?

By nature, these are hard to prove. But, any evidence, at all?

Foster should have been fired 10 years ago lol. He was in on fixing games with Donaghy.

In most cases I would agree with you buy let's think about bookies for a second.

1. The have no team allegiance.

2. They only care about $$$ and position themselves to make as much as they can.

If Scott Foster really had no impact one way or the other I doubt we would see bookies react as they did. Its a pretty big tell. A good sports bookie is a number and data nerd who capitalizes on it. I agree that FANS are overly sensitive to reffs, but bookies? Eghh that one caries some weight for me.

OK, good point. But, this doesn't mean the league is involved in any sinister way.

In an outdoor game, the weather affects the line, particularly if one offense is more of a passing one, or whatever.

My point is, Foster might be a shitty ref (but as I linked, he has detractors on both teams), and the line may move. But, that doesn't guarantee or even signal any misconduct from the league.

Let's say that someone brings evidence that the NBA deliberately influences the outcomes of games. Is it illegal like bribing jurors to influence the outcome of a criminal case? The NBA makes their own rules for the benefit of their own business.

Maybe the NBA loses some integrity but it's still entertainment and the WWE is rather profitable.

It would mean the end of the league. We aren't talking a rogue ref, but an entire system that is fixed. Also, what about the players? You think they would play in a rigged league?

All this talk of chasing championships, every championship and every player in the past would be tainted, etc.

The conclusion was Donaghy was the fall guy.

We'll see tonight when Dray gets 2 early fouls and Steph gets beaten to hell off the ball with no calls, and Harden shoots 20 free throws.

Well, then to be fair, Chris Paul would also have been ejected with two early technicals?

I believe the implication is that it's nothing close to fair, but OK?

I linked an article from this season, CP complains about Foster.

So, both sides have issues with him. What makes you think the Warriors' complaints are more valid?

Also, the line remains Rockets -1.5...
