Golden State Warriors 2017-2018

I'm drinkin Kool-Aid? HAHAHAHAHA. talk to ya soon. First you say everyone says it will be easy. That gets modified to many sportswriters. But nobody said easy, I don't think.

y.

Please point where I said everyone says it will be easy, or anything close to such an absolute statement.

You, seem to think it will be easy.

Well, I want to apologize because it was bowling that said it, not you. My bad.

But then you claim I seem to think it will be easy. Not at all. Yer still makin up shit because I once said they won't sweep. I said that because I don't think they will sweep. It won't be easy. But I think they'll ultimately prevail. To me, Rockets themselves are making claims as well as fans that they might not be able to back up.
It will be "their year" until it's not. That's a prediction of a hard-fought series.

Cool. I consider you an online buddy, so let's keep our passion for our teams civil.

I've talked to several disinterested friends, guys who sportsbet, etc. In my mind, and there's general agreement among my friends, Warriors are 57/43 favorites for the series. I think the three most likely outcomes are:

1. Warriors in 7
2. Rockets in 7
2a. Warriors in 6

2 and 2a are really close, in my mind.

So, to talk basketball:

I definitely get the matchup problems you guys are saying for the Rockets. No one matches up on Durant, Thompson when hot is horrible to deal with, Draymond is big and can shoot and pass, and...Curry.

But, who does Curry defend? We know the Rockets like iso. When his man gets by him, especially after PnR, what then? The Rockets have FEASTED on lobs to Capela, and CP has a very good mid-game. Speaking of Capela, who from the "Death Lineup" or "Hampton's Five" (hehe) will guard? Harden has off games, including in the playoffs, but overall, he's been his awesome self this playoff.

The Jazz played great defense all year, got more or less crushed in 5 games, several of which the Rockets really didn't shoot well.

Benches? Consensus seems to be Rockets' is significantly better, but they have to play well (meaning hit 3s and play solid defense/rebound).

About CP not historically playing well against GSW, I didn't check, will take as true. But, and I'm not saying precedent doesn't matter, well, things are different. He's also never been to a conference finals, the Rockets have never won 65 games, etc. None of that matters much.

Rockets MUST win game 1. Game 1 loss would be seriously deflating, perhaps shake confidence, etc. Split not ideal, but I suppose acceptable (then must get split in Oakland).

Curry makes up for his size both in scoring and in steals. Despite cumulative injuries, I have seen him do some great steals and interruptions. Not sure who he is assigned to but the way they switch, it's always a not-for-long thing.

I think Capela is a real challenge but Klay is great at the basket of those five and heck, Durant is too. I know, they are assigned the other guys.. But nobody says that the "small lineup" (Kerr's term over dramatic Death bit) will be on the court except perhaps at tip-off for any length of time..

If the lineup is working, they'll stay out there. But if they go into one of their crappy shooting nights, who knows...

And after a week and a half of neutralizing Anthony Davis at the basket, I am not so concerned. He, a truly great player, was just taken out of the game by the last matchup. I dont know how they did it, because he had had success in earlier games but not in Game 5.

We shall see....but yes, to beat them in Game 1 would be devastating. I certainly don't expect it but the Warriors have been confusing and surprising me all year long. Mostly in a good way lately. I

I have truly watched every single game and when they shift into fifth gear, it's really something. barring an ugly and quite possible injury. Even JaVale may surprise you if they bring him in. He was great in the first round, but held completely out in second, I think. He is the one guy, who in the last regular season debacle, got a steal and a semi-hilarious fast break. Still hungry, still appreciative, and still getting over the earlier ridicule. I love that ugly duckling.

I like McGee.

Anyway, yeah Davis was "neutralized" to some extent, but well, no need to compare the Pelicans and Rockets, in my mind. The thinking on Clutchfans (Rockets' board) is Curry is a defensive weak link. He can't stop the guy in front of him, goes the thinking, and the Rockets will capitalize.

If we look at playoff performance so far, I'd say a wash. Both won two 4-1 series, and in similar way (general domination).

I think GSW takes it, because the Rockets need to play cliche "perfect" games to win, especially as far as 3-point shooting. Although I definitely think they CAN do it, you have to bet against doing so 4 times.

All this said, I remain willing to put a small wager! Proceeds to BARF.

I'll do $50 for charity on final outcome of Dubs winning, not specific game count.. I ain't a rich man.

But I agree they have played fairly evenly. To me, the Dubs were a bit murky against the Spurs, then tightened up for Pelicans, despite one loss. That was a crappy shooting night loss. Klay was like 4 for 20 or something.

LOL, I was thinking like $20, just for fun.

That's a deal then. Fine! I was trying to be a step-up guy but frankly, I'm cool with the lower amount.

Awesome, so to confirm...if GSW wins series, I donate $20 to BARF in your name, and if Rockets win, vice versa?

I like doing this stuff during major sporting events (World Cup, you're next!).

My money's on Team USA to win it ALL so I'll be sure to watch every game they are in! :flag :flag :flag

:laughing

Haha, yeah. I'm also disappointed about the Netherlands (!!!) not making the final. I generally like watching them (minus their occasional thuggy approach).

It is too bad about US though. It's fun when people get into it, etc. at the bars.

Man, the Cavs are getting a TON of layups, dunks and open 3’s. Looks like a high school game. Can the Celtics really pull off a win?

What game were you watching? :laughing

So far it's solid a beatdown by the Celtics, and it started in the first quarter. If the Celtics didn't score a point in the 2nd quarter they would have still had the lead at halftime.

EDIT: Celtics by 25 at the end.

Just heard on 95.7 the gaaaaaaaaaaaaaame:

Scott Foster spotted in Houston. Just before that news gets out, Vegas changes to the Rockets being favored. Wow.

Listening at the same time. It does feel the NBA did this on purpose. Have Foster officiate and call a tight game early on, get Draymond a few early fouls. Gonna be interesting.

Kerr is 7-7 when Foster officiates a playoff game and I think 44-10 when it’s he’s not. That’s considerable.

Harden and Paul, two of the leagues biggest floppers and both in the 80% or higher from the free throw line so their near automatic when they get fouled.

It bums me out when sports look fixed. A Sports organization has a major credibility problem when bookies flip the odds upon the arrival of a referee, umpire or judge.

LOL, the excuses begin! But seriously, I am EXCITED! Part of me is anxious and just hopes the Rockets don't get blown out, but man this is gonna be awesome!
