Golden State Warriors 2017-2018

Gordon/Tucker made 7 more three pointers than their season averages. Steph/Klay made 4 LESS than theirs.

Yeah, it had the momentum magic thing goin, then the Dubs just kind of stopped bothering to defend. They smelled the coffee and the loss.

LOL, you make it sound like the Rockets won by two in the last minute, rather than the starters being out early in the fourth quarter.

I agree it's unlikely the Rockets shoot again this well combined with the Warriors shooting that poorly. But, this was a dominating win, a near blowout. We don't need such an extreme combination for the Rockets to win.

No, i'm saying that 2 role players (plus Ariza) all went off at the same time, and basically all of the Warriors besides KD had bad nights.

That's an obvious recipe for a blowout.

Well game 3 will be interesting because it does seem like the Rockets need those extremes to win. They lost game 1 and Harden was out of his mind with 41 and klay and curry had basic games. Durrant went off though.

What kills me is we write off a bad shooting night as the offensive players fault. But shouldnt the defense get some credit? Likely causing low percentage shots?

Works both ways. Rockets probably put the warriors in lots of bad shots and are tiring Curry out.

The Rockets were atypically hot from the role players COMBINED with defense. Granted, when you're making and not missing, the defense can get set and it eliminates fast breaks where both teams shine.

Warriors will make a defensive adjustment and Klay and Curry will score more than game 2.

I agree. They proved it last night, after the weird Game One. They did everything they were supposed to be able to now do, with their acquisitions, etc etc. to match up to Dubs. I expected the Rockets to look like they did last night in Game One. Like I said, rope-a-dope. Who knows what the hell is going on with these millionaires? And they played a lot faster than I predicted, I freely admit. What a difference.

That one play, in which I think Ariza literally jogged free to the basket for a dunk, was........awesome!

That made me cringe. The only thing I could think of was, "Someone is making a GIF right now." That play was so bad.

I agree with most of what you say, but why do you think the Rockets will need extremes to win games? Once again, they won by 22 last night! If the Rockets won by 2, or anything fewer than 10 or so in my mind, I'd agree with you (that all stars must align for Rockets to even win).

But yeah, defense, agreed. Both are good defensive teams (hard to believe I'm saying this about the Rockets), and the losing team in each game looked flustered and out of sorts. In game 1, my thought is the 45% iso or whatever (double the norm) was not desired, but was forced upon the Rockets. They were turning the ball over, shooters were missing, and so the Rockets are left with iso.

Yeah, game 3 will be awesome. I'll predict a split in the two Oakland games (otherwise, I think series is over).

The body language of the Rockets was totally different. After game 1, a lot of fans were deflated/dejected (Clutchfans was in meltdown mode), but the Rockets players and coaches were quite upbeat, which I thought a good sign. They didn't think the situation hopeless, that GSW was unbeatable, etc. They basically reiterated they must "dance with who brung you" in terms of style.

Anyway, last night, even on the most basic of passes, the Rockets looked confidence. For example, in game 1, they seemed excited to the point of being tight (with unsure passes, holding the ball too long, etc.). Last night, after rebounds, the ball was casually (but confidently) passed underhand (with even a bit of style) to another player to go up court, etc. I'm not explaining well, but I found the difference very obvious.

I'll be surprised if they split in Oakland.

Yup. But, since you say...

It takes off nights from basically everybody plus Houston shooting lights out to get a W."

You don't think the Rockets can win, say, an 8-point game? You find it improbable the Rockets could win a game in which that Ariza et al. are not as hot, and GSW not as cold?

In other words, you went from "win" to "blowout" as the standard.
