GS500 build thread... cf tanks, internal supercharger, etc

Dunno if you know this trick already- you didn't mention it.

When doing layups with the lost foam method- wrap the foam plug in clear packing tape. After melting the foam out you can pull the masking tape from the inside of the part. No goo cleanup, and leaves a better finish on the inside than the outside. I bet one continuous wrap of tape along those runners woulda pulled right out.

I miss being in college and doing this stuff. Now I just drink and buy things with the money from work and lack of time/facilities.

That's a really good idea. I will certainly give it a shot. Thanks

Dunno if you mentioned this, but how old are you? Are you finishing undergraduate studies or graduate studies? Where at? Just curious the cat in me lol. :ride

I'm 26. Just finishing my undergrad studies, which included a stint at UC Berkeley studying genetic engineering, some time at the academy of art studying vehicle design and rapid prototyping, and then finally my mech e degree.

The op grew up in a holiday express.

Seriously, the OP is a trust fund away from being Batman.

Trust fund... hell, I'd be happy with a job right now. Bartending is great and all, but time for a real job. Anyone hiring? ;)

Back to the bike... got the 3d scanner sort of working. I can scan and get an individual view, but the software is being stubborn about compositing multiple scans together to make the final model. I'll post up some pics and vids of the process once it decides to cooperate a bit better.

sub-fucking-scribed!

man, this is awesome!

(I might bug you about helping me design/create a tail section with your software and other such badassness)

Happy New Year

What type/weight of CF did you use?

Im a CF virgin, but I had a great idea for something i want to do to my 89 Hawk, and know relatively little about CF, what would you recommend for an Air Intake?

so the question is how much do turbo and EFI my ninja :p

but seriously... thats probally my next engine build I figure buy the parts log another 20k on the bike and then do a full build

im thinking bore it to a 650 or so... drop it from 12:1 to about 10 and shove 5-10 PSI in its face....

nothing like a FMIC :D

if you want to do something interesting, put a little vnt25 turbo on there. Really go for the broad torque curve. I've been dying to put one of those onto something interesting. Nice thing is you don't have to deal with a wastegate either, so makes the packaging on a bike easier.

What weight did I use? Between the bike and the molds for parts on the bike, I've used 3 different kinds of carbon, 3 kinds of fiberglass, and two kinds of kevlar... so you'll have to be a bit more specific as to what part.

What's the basic idea of the intake? I can be more helpful if I have some idea of what you're trying to achieve.

Let me know... I'm not half bad with a pen and pencil either

(here's a drawing I did for my lil bro for christmas a couple years back)

First of all as a fellow fabricator I would like to say thank you for sharing all this build.
You said you were using/created a 3d scanner to help aid in the design of fairings for the bike. I don't know if you have seen this or thought about using it but the new xbox kinect camera makes a decent 3d modeler. Here is a link for you to check out. There is allot more info out there on it if your interested.
