GTA IV

i ended up getting it on the ps3 and was happy to see that i could control motos with the tilt controls!
the game looks good and the voice acting is really good, makes it interesting. i havent had much time to play yet though, working sucks. i got a date with that girl and had to buy clothes. thats where i left off, but i goofed around in the city.

Multiplayer is pretty damn fun. Graphics are def real nice on a good tv. Of course it doesnt look like gears, but this city is so huge and in depth that it doesn't matter.

The driving, while different, is fine. They took a more realistic approach I suppose. Only took a minute or so to get used to the new feel which I think is much better.

The music is also great. I haven't really listened to much at all, but what I have it's pretty cool

Im playing on a 200 inch 1080P screen, so it's definetly not my tv:twofinger

Im not saying the graphics are bad by any means, it just would have been nice to see the characters modeled a little better:

for example mass effect:

now gta4:

it just seems the models in gta4 are still blocky and not very smooth.

what you're not getting is there is so much other processing going on that they CAN'T make the characters look any better. It would just chug along if they did. The processor only has so many cycles to do everything it has to.

If you gave a professional artist 10 hours to draw a 5 inch by 7 inch picture it would look awesome. The details would be wonderful. If you gave the same artist 10 hours to paint a mural on the side of a building it wouldn't look good up close. But if you step back you can see his talent.

You need to take 3 steps back from this game.

Posted this on another forum:

The best buy here(emeryville , ca) had a shit ton of copies , I decided not to do the midnight thing. Didnt have to with any other games either , SSB , Halo etc...

Pretty decent , it is what I expected. Pretty much same game , different graphics , different story.

Car physics are kind of insane , even the vipers body roll like crazy , pretty easy to drift around after getting used to it. You have to slow down for corners ALOT or you just plow off the road , pretty nifty but all the cars have that same feel regardless of FWD/RWD etc. Also you cant ebrake while playing with the cell phone!

I'm not super fond of the fighting system but it works, targeting with guns is fine.

The graphics are ok I guess considering its running on 360. I wish the framerate was better and more anti aliasing. I have a westinghouse 32" 1080P TV and I have to sit pretty close so the blurring doesn't make my face hurt. When you're not moving it looks great. I wish they would have launched it on PC..

i got this game at midnight since i was already awake and had it preordered. I think so far that this game has lived up to the hype. im still getting used to the 360 controls and it seems like whenever i push the analog stick to the left and let it go, my character keeps walking left, almost in a circle. however, that just might be my controller.

but overall, the graphics are great, shooting the guys with the guns and targeting different spots on their bodies is cool, and the new ragdoll physics are awesome.

it definetly takes a lot of practice to get used to the driving, but im getting better at it, and its becoming more fun. just wait until you steal a banshee/viper. you can do doughnuts for days...........:)

btw, i have never seen a game get this many good reviews from critics. gamespot.com gave it a 10/10. first time ever for a game on there, they are pretty stingy when it comes to good ratings.

I'm sorry buy anyone who gave a 10/10 on graphics was paid.. I would rate it as a 6 at best..

man, you guys must be spoiled on graphics now. im playing on a 20 inch toshiba regular tv and it looks great to me. remember, great graphics don't make a great game...

Great game but the lack of being able to join multiplayer last night (PS3) was really pissing me off! I tried multiple times from 4-10 PM, out of probably 10 attempts I was only able to get into multiplayer once! Then I screwed up and jumped out of the car playing cops n crooks and locked the game.

Still, besides gamespy servers sucking, the game itself is great!

I have that rare disease musthaveframerateism , unless i'm getting 60fps my head hurts :|

expecting a game this huge with this large of a draw distance with so much going on and no load times when going around the whole city, you cant expect 60 fps

First of all, I haven't owned any prior GTA games. I've played around with GTA3 and its' variants at friends places but nothing serious.

After playing for about 3.5hours last night, I say I'm impressed by most of it. The game have a very cinematic feel to it. The City is very much alive and transforms from day to night beautifully. So much dialogue in the game, it's ridiculous. Compare that with Assassin's Creed which is completely the oppposite and you can see how much dialogue means in the sand box style game. The fluidity in the game progression is a thing of beauty. You really are running Niko's day to day life!

But all is not all. Graphically this game is maybe a 6 or at best 7. Yes, the lighting is good but blur effect is used to mask a lot of it's flaws. The frame rate is pretty good most of the time but a game like this need to look something like Mass Effect with the grain filter. Than it'd be downright amazing.

The driving seems fine to me. I got used to it pretty quick and it's good enough for such a game. The audio is great though but I had to turn down the music levels as they're way too high default.

I'll comment more on the gun play as I get deeper into it. Right now I haven't used it that much.

Overall, the game seems about a 9.5 so far. However, if Crackdown has this sort of story depth and flow, I'd rate it just as high as GTA4. This game reminded me how great Crackdown was and at a much smaller budget!

360 version ofcourse.

Well, shoot, I got the game at the midnight release (360 version), only stood in line for like 30 minutes :thumbup, I got there at about midnight, but the line was moving...perfect.

Got home at 1am, threw in the game and went straight for multi-player/online mode. Easy money.

Buddy got on at 1:30 and we started the game: Free Roam mode.

For the next 5 hours we F'd shit up, just driving around exploring the whole of Liberty City.
Helicopters, speed boats, of course the slew of cars to jack at any point, and best of all, the NRG 900 RR Shitzu motorcycle were available from the start.
Next thing I knew, the sun was creeping in from behind my levolor blinds...OH NOES 6:30am?!! :wow ....Glad I took some PTO today :teeth

.....and yes there are bugs/issues with the game (game sync issue in the UI after the bomb da base II game mode, car floating 2ft in the air, some multiplayer gameplay sync issues....) other than that the single player gameplay is what I expected...really good with some issues (all games have issues/bugs), the online gameplay is what I had hoped for and got!

So, I really do not like this game and I really don't want to go home after work to play it all night again......and again and again and again :laughing :twofinger
