Harley Davidson to release an Electric Motorcycle

Actually, it's not very quiet at all. I have videos of the thing and it actually makes a nice racket (I'm working to get them uploaded). About the noise level you would get from a CBR250R. It's just very subdued and gets easily drowned out by ambient noise due to the high pitch.

Yeah it sounds like a straight cut gear set in there or something.

Videos are still "uploading" 3 hours later. Not sure if that's still the way it works for youtube render time or if trying to do it all from an iPhone was a bad idea. If they aren't up when I get off work, I'll do it when I get home on a real computer.

Cool! No worries, I appreciate you hosting them to share with everyone. I asked the guy at the dealership how much of that sound was being created by the rollers, and his response was "We built this rig specifically for showcasing bike noise, the rollers are dead silent."

Given that the bike has just one front disk, can we assume that it will only NEED one front disk?? :laughing

Or are there two disks in the rear for the HD faithful?

Good brakes not needed, a harley rider will just lay it down

Indeed... So we can look forward to lots of broken battery bits spreading over the roads, flushed into the waterways, etc? And a hazmat team called in for every crash?? :party

Oh real funny!:thumbup

Joking aside, I think electric bikes for the most part run a single disc since there is so much 'engine braking' going on under deceleration. Or at least that sounds right in my head. But then again, that might make you more likely to lock the rear.

Engine breaking? Definitely HD.

Engine braking? Who knows? :laughing

Finally got the videos up. Derp moment for me. Forgot you can't upload videos from the phone unless you're on wifi.

"Island Man" has his say:

LiveWire & Ghosts of Harley's Past

".....After I got home from the LiveWire reveal, all my motorcycle friends wanted to know what it was like.

It was only in telling and retelling the story of my brief sample ride that the I fully realized one of the most striking parts of the experience: The LiveWire didn’t feel like an electric V-Rod and it certainly didn’t feel like an electric Fat Boy.

The EV’s firm suspension; the narrow-hipped ergonomics and seat; the signal-to-noise ratio... It felt like an electric CBR, or Gixxer
....."
