You should hear the story sometime. Between the city and the state I don't know how the guy stayed in business. Every last bureaucrat around lined up for a chunk.

The funny thing is that most people never have their own business and think owners are rich folks getting richer off their sweat. . One of my electricians made $35k more than me one year. It was kind of the last straw. Nice guy, but fuck.

Tell me about it. My dad owned his own Construction company and was the only employee for almost 40 years. About two months ago he stopped, and got a position at a larger company making twice as much, not to mention all the other perks (phone, computer, car, etc).

It's really sad, actually.

The story is just one of one little thing after another, after another, after another. I think the straw that broke his back was when the city made him make huge changes to some overhead storage to make it safe, and then forbid him using one piece of machinery for some ridiculous reason (ridiculous enough that I was amazed). He got nickled and dimed to death, material prices went up, ever stricter labor laws added more cost, and suddenly what he realized was that in order to make money selling suits, he had to sell a couple thousand a year. Which in a small biz like that is impossible.

I would guess that the owner would be on the hook to make the structure safe to use, is that not the case?

Yes but everybody wants more government. "Free" healthcare, multi-tier motorcycle licensing, better roads, etc. It all comes with a price tag and an extra cut for the middleman (government).

Best gloves I've ever owned and best customer service to boot. I have 2 pairs I rotate to make them last longer; might end up getting a 3rd pair just because. Truly a sad day.

One time I had a stitching issue so I dropped my gloves off with him to repair them. Three days later I had a brand new set. The man really stands behind his work.

I've told this before, but it's worth telling again:

Years ago I crashed in a Helimot suit during a test day at Buttonwillow. Crashed in the Riverside turn at ~130. Wasn't injured but the long slide worked the suit over pretty well. It held up well enough that I could finish the day on my second bike.

I had a track day the following weekend and wanted to have the suit repaired before then if possible. Dropped the suit off on Monday morning and asked Helmut if there was any chance of having it in decent shape by Friday. He clucked, shook his head, asked me if I was OK and said he would try.

Thursday, the shop called, said the suit was ready. I came down and found the suit hanging out on the floor. It was immaculate. I couldn't believe they could repair it that thoroughly.

Well, they couldn't. So they made me a new suit and just charged me for a repair.

The left only want to take the middle classes money and give it to the meatheads who want to work at Taco Bell and try to raise a family of 4 kids on it.
Since when do you owe someone who makes poor choices in life a free ride?

I really wish I had bought leathers from him before he stopped making them but I'm super stoked I know my glove size.

The company my wife was working for just packed up and moved over to Nevada due to all the costs associated with operating in CA
