Hip Hop: What the Hell Happened??!

Is this guy another one of those SoundCloud mumble rappers who is probably going to end up dead from an overdose?

I honestly used to think SoundCloud was doing the world a favor by giving people without connections or a lot of money a platform. Now I just think it's making kids living in their parent's house with way overrated "abilities" think they're superstars. :nchantr

Here is a video of the other Lil rapper that I thought the Lil rapper in the OP was trying to emulate. More Emo than Rap, but definitely a well crafted, and catchy tune IMO.

I like Lil Wayne....

Exactly

EDIT:

I originally read that as “Like Lil Wayne...”

IMO, Lil Wayne’s rise in popularity coincides with the downfall of real hip hop.

The artists in my steady rotation are:

Nas
Biggy
KRS-One
De La Soul
Gang Starr
Jedi Mind Tricks
Canibus
Apathy
Ill Bill
Ras Kass
Joell Ortiz
Czarface
Wu-Tang (mostly Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, and GZA)
Anything produced by Apollo Brown
Big Pun
Cannibal Ox
Sean Price
OC

There are maybe 3-4 Lil Wayne songs that I like and most of them are off of mix tapes, not full length studio albums.

:dunno To each their own...

didn't Lil Peep die or something?

*edit* looks like yes, @21 years old in Tuscon

from Wikipedia:
November 15, 2017 (aged 21)
Tucson, Arizona, U.S.
Cause of death Accidental fentanyl–alprazolam (Xanax) overdose[1]

*edit #2* went and red Lil Peep's whole wiki entry, man is that depressing.

There's a lot of good younger artists. Just have to wade through the sea of bad ones. Roddy Rich, Da Baby, A boogie wit da hoodie have all had some pretty good projects lately. Roddy rich is a bit too much autotune for me but even that being said i really really like his early albums.

Oh, and lil wayne is amazing :bitchslap

He is a rapper, he cannot create good music. Choose one or the other.

Doubtful. When I was 15 I was pretty into Slayer, but also Beethoven, James Brown, Grieg, B. B. King, Tchaikovsky, The Pointer Sisters, and Orff.

Rap is largely a talentless trash style of music, much like most punk rock. There are some artists that make some pretty cool tracks that sound like Rapish to me, but Rap People will often tell me that they aren't rap, that they are Pop or R&B. It is almost all garbage that only has value because a good producer puts the noise to tracks where any kind of vocals could have sufficed.

I also have almost zero appreciation for poetry as an art form, which may contribute to this.

:dunno
