How To: 1st service for 04' ZX636

The NGK Iridium plugs are the absolute best thing you can do for your bike. They cost just a little more than stock plugs which last only 8K miles. The Iridium plugs last better than 60K miles and give better throttle response, power and fuel economy. They are all I use.

i still end up changing them out every 8~10k i've seen what happens when the porclen (sp) cracks and falls into the cylinders, not pretty. its still the best bang for the buck IMHO

excelent write up, shawn! i know how tedious it is to stop and take pictures at every step - muchless EVERY bolt!!!!! props !!! :thumbup

btw: dont forget to ask your green 636 roomie about his race tyres... and i'll get back to u on that airfilte+intake right around November 2nd.

I ran a set of NGK platinum plugs in my CBR for better than 50K miles. They hardly looked worn.

maybe that because you hardly ride :twofinger

Elskipador!

I have a question about the gauges tool.
Where can i get it and how much does it cost? Is it worth the investment?

Also, how exactly do you do the measuring? Do you just crank the engine once the gauges are connected on the port?

The vacuum guages measure manifold vacuum while it's idling. Even vacuum equals a smooth idle. They are a little pricey, but a must have if you're in the business.

I see. So you idle the engine without the filter installed (from the picture).
My R6 (2003) is so damn tight around the coils and gas hoses i'm not even sure i can run it with the gas tank up.
Thank you!

cool thanks for the pricing on the plugs etc, how much $ then for your time as well?

next loosen the oil-filter retaining clamp. this thing it great, keeps your filter clamped on, just like a race bike. its about time the factory started doing this. maybe frame sliders will come out on factory bikes soon :love

When i changed my oil i noticed that mine didnt have one, so i went to the dealer to ask and they looked at me like i was crazy? The best taht they came up with was that it was aftermarket?

Hey Shawn, I just saw this one... you rock! :thumbup

brake caliper mounting bolts, 34 N/m

Did I mention that the stock caliper mounting bolts are made of fine case-hardened cheese? :thumbdown

Best thing to do is to toss them and replace with a more conventional hex-head bolt of identical length.

Or, you can always pony up the ducats and spring for ti bolts. Only $12 each! :laughing:cry
