Hwy 1 closed Dec '22 - ‘26 NOW OPEN!!!

HWY 1 is one of those living roads that needs to be worked to remain.

The elephant seal rookery is still open from the south end.
San Simeon, north for the seals, still short of Ragged Point & locked gate.

Another point here.
Will Monterey county open up Hunter-Ligett this new years as posted?

I would throw down money on "NO"

Update,

" Hwy 1 closed Dec '22
by CDONA "

Having this displayed on the forum's all thread page as last posted, makes me feel guilty of an Elon manouver of selfishness. :x

:teeth

Yup. I lived in Big Sur eight years, and saw numerous landslides, some taking out 100 foot sections of the highway. A couple big ones took out much more at Partington Ridge. It's part of the fun of living there.

You should be able to ride through the public portions of Fort Hunter Liggett now. It's only the main garrison that is fenced off with access control. Whether or not Nacimiento-Fergusson Road will reopen, on the other hand, is the stuff or rainbows and unicorns.

All this rain has to be making more work needed to open Hwy 1.

Between these north/south portals of coastal info, we know what is going on.
Monterey County is a remaining mystery, as of today the last posting I read @ the N/F gate & Hwy 1 has expired today 1/1/23

Big Sur Kate rocks

Go CalTrans!

It is probably a bit surreal out there doing the clean up.
At least it would be for me.

Another update on Hwy 1.

Still Closed

I found this this morning, doesn't explain last nites tv news.
https://calcoastnews.com/2023/01/highway-1-at-ragged-point-open-tuesday-closing-on-wednesday/

Update on this, Cal-Trans is giving the locals a shopping day, Thursday to get into town for resupply. More storms are coming, and planning on a ten day +/- closure

TV news explained a ten mile closure added on, from Ragged Point to the turnouts for the seal rookery.
So just past San Simeon, elephant seals, gate.

Thanks for all the updates.

TV news last nite have proclaimed Hwy 1 is open "all the way" to Ragged Point.

UPDATE on info, NB on Hwy 1 from Morro Bay is open to Ragged Point, then road closure.

A big yes from Cal-Trans, that lost weekend into Valentines day is available @ the northern end of SLO county, Hwy 1's romantic end of road.
