Hwy 1 closed Dec '22 - ‘26 NOW OPEN!!!

On the news a cal trans spokesperson said the repair has the most steel and concrete in the ground he’s ever seen for a repair.

I rode through it last week. Plan on time for one way sections as they are still moving some dirt near the site for a while.

Oh yeah. Was there. Was so busy that I quit and took Nacimiento Ferguson.

Hold them alloy horses,
Back to full stop for a bit.

Rude! Glad I got to ride it recently.

edit: Mr @CDONA beat me to the punch. :facepalm

and … looks like it’s closed again, just north of Big Sur, after the storms this week:

“Hwy One is closed from 2.3 mi north of Lucia to 16.3 mi south of Big Sur (Monterey Co) - Due to a slide - Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.”

“As of February 18, 2026, Highway 1 is closed between Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties due to active rockslides and debris. A major 45-mile stretch is impacted, with no estimated reopening time for the blocked areas, forcing travelers to use alternative routes instead of driving directly through Big Sur.”

edit 2: I had a vague plan to try to head towards Prewitt Ridge today, but sound like that’ll be too much of a project if I can’t just take Hwy 1. (trying to avoid cold and snow on the Grapevine). :dunno
