I failed the DMV renewal test

Ha, I just had to renew as well. I too was worried about the vision test and was memorizing them while waiting in line. When I got up there it was no problem, I could read them from 3x the distance. But sometimes one eye has temporary clouding.

What triggers a test? I did not have to take one. Coworker said they only had to answer a few questions, not a full test. It's bonkers.

I suspect a test is triggered if you get a point since your last renewal.

No, as previously stated, it is within 6 months of your current renewal.

No, it is 6 months. I get one ticket every 5 years like motherfucking clockwork a few months before renewal.

I didn't have to take a written test when I renewed to the Real ID driver license.

I did, at the beginning of the pandemic. Los Gatos DMV was virtually empty and I passed the test.
