Getting tired of reading about riders (and cagers too) getting taken out by drivers that should not be behind the wheel. (Recent fatality in another thread) when they have a suspended license and should not be driving.

Inbound all vehicles when license is suspended or make them 100% inoperable. Any car they are caught driving is impounded and sold at a100% loss to the owner. This would prevent most people from "loaning their car" to anyone with a suspended license since they could lose their car.

A large percentage of suspended drivers are either under the influence or should not be driving.

This goes for motorcycle riders who get a suspended license for multiple speeding tickets.

What ya think?

So if someone (a roommate, a relative) with a suspended license takes my keys without me knowing (maybe I'm out of town, on vacation) about it and gets caught with my car, I lose it?

That doesn't sound fair.

Sounds like if room mate did that .. they're essentially stealing your car.

I'm sure if you have the proper insurance they can step up here.

That's a horrible idea

Will make us all aware of who and how has access to our cars.
Just like having a 15 year old at home. You have to always know where your keys are and take them with you when you leave. I never had keys around when my boys were not licensed or were restricted by me from driving. My parents left the keys, guess what I did?

Not a horrible idea if you have lost someone from the careless acts of someone who shouldn't be driving.
Now that is unfair to lose someone in this fashion.

Sounds very Draconian.

With storage fees being unethically high, impound during suspension is the same as just seizing the vehicle outright.

And, aside from putting the vehicle in the squeeza-machine, no way you can make a vehicle 100% inoperable.

That's a pony of another flavor called:

Throw in some mass total surveillance and chip tracking for us and we're almost there. HAIL HYDRA

Let's say it's your kid, you gonna wanna press the GTA charges?

Rather draconian indeed, impossible to enforce OPs parameters.

How about requiring breathalyzers on all vehicles as standard equipment?

no prob, but you just shut down the entire bar and restaurant biz :)

Ban assault weapons?

0.01% BAC from drinking cold medicine. OFF WITH HIS HEAD. Immediate firing squad or the car self destructs and a bomb goes off with you in it

Racist idea. Brown and black lives matter.

I know this is tongue in cheek. However, any implementation of such a plan will disproportionately affect the economically disadvantaged.

Hell, I would guess most suspensions occur as a result of not paying a traffic infraction.

Yes, please let's penalize them to the fullest extent possible. :Bap

Wait they should just designate public roads as alcohol free zones. That way nobody will ever drink and drive again for the rest of eternity.

a la Ferguson and the frustrations with their code enforcement for financial gain.

How is it racist? Almost all the people that I know who have had suspended licenses from DUIs and yet continue to drive around during their suspension were white. It just depends on what kind of idiots you know not on skin color.

Are the specifics of their suspension that they can drive to and from work, AA meetings, alcohol classes, etc?

BTW, I believe in January, 1st time DUI offenders have to install interlocks.

Too many tickets for going 67 in a 65 zone. Cut off his hands

I don't know how they do it in England, but people are deathly afraid of getting speeding tickets and there are camera traps everywhere. Forget about driving drunk! People won't do it.

So, the take-away is that assault weapons ban works?

We're talking about suspended driving privileges. They don't hand those out like Crackerjacks, you have to earn it.

Vehicle immobilization through some technology with severe penalties for over riding it - 30 days in jail first offense - and similar for getting caught driving any vehicle seems reasonable to me.

Problem today is no accountability. Do the crime, faggettaboutit! No biggie.

Make it hurt to do the crime, you get less of it. Subsidize it, you get more.

Simple really.

If it impacts any particular demographic, then maybe there's a cultural problem with the demographic that they need to address.

When your actions impact innocents, you need accountability.
