iPhone Jailbreak....

Correct me if I'm wrong:

I'm already testing out 3.2 firmware (which helps the battery life a bit), but I'm also curious in Jailbreaking one of my spare iphones at work (just to see what it offers). It's already been upgraded to 3.1.2 with the new baseband. Would I need to restore it to factory settings and restore just 3.1 on it before I start unlocking?
 
That's interesting that you're testing 3.2, since it's an iPad only version ;) (yes, I know the SDK is out...).

Anyhow, the unlock and jailbreaking is pretty easy now. Basically you jailbreak first, then install the unlock using geohot's tools blackra1n and blacksn0w. More info here link
 
lol don't be a smart-ass and yes its the SDK :teeth. I've read online that people are browsing around with 4.0. MUST HAVE!

K so I'm reading that 3.1.3 on a 3GS might be able to be jailbroken if the phone has been done so before. It's a long complicated way and its bricked a few phones (according to comments), so I'm not about to try it yet. Can I restore the iphone to factory settings or will it retain the 3.1.3 firmware?
 
^^^so, maybe I won't be doing it this weekend after all...
 
3.1.3 jailbreak is not out yet. Usually takes a week or two for the new jailbreaks to come out. The update is worthless anyway, just a bugfix for bugs people likely never encounter.

Summary - don't upgrade to 3.1.3.
 
I just looked. I have 3.1.2 on my phone. Does that mean that I'm totally cool to Jailbreak and Unlock?
 
I'm going to try it on a 3GS that I got replaced. We'll see... no way am I trying this on my personal phone.

Cash UPDATE: I'm telling you now, don't bother with this right now. #1 3.1.3 isn't worth it. #2 sn0wbreeze isn't as finished as it should have been before they released it. Many of you will ignore our advice and do wtvr anyways so I WILL get a guide up, if I find a trick to making sn0wbreeze work! If I do make a guide, it WILL NOT be for the iPhone 3GS, after many repeated tries with different .ipsw files made with sn0wbreeze I am fairly convinced that sn0wbreeze is not compatible with 3GS 3.1.3 firmware.

3.1.2 JB and unlock is working fine on my 3G...just do your research, and follow the guides to a T.
 
I just jailbroke and unlocked a 2g iPhone running 3.1.2 using redsn0w earlier this week. I now have it running on t-mobile. Works great. PM me if you need any help.
 
How can I confirm if I buy an iphone off eBay/CL that it's NOT stolen before purchase?
And if I find it is stolen, can I unlock or otherwise get around any potential locks/problems?

Did any one try installing the 4.0 Beta on their iphones yet ?
