Just got a Google nexus 7

don't use or download 'tubemate' I guess. So if you google search it, it directs u to its main website, and if you don't believe it, you can get it from Amz Market place (additional install.) BUT.. from Google play, supposedly, it looks like it's a -different- programmer with the same-named app, so it could be a fake that will might send your files somewhere.

p.s. an.. Appel Blutooth keyboard actually works on the N7. I accidentally looked it up and later I tried it.. yeah it works. you can type, "lol", if you have the kbd already

[*]Google Reader (I'm not a fan of the "magazine" style feed readers, just give me my rss feeds)

Have you checked out Press? Its a really nice interface of an RSS reader that syncs directly to your Reader account. Nice interface, great look, plenty of display options. I prefer it to the magazine style as well, but that takes a lot more explining to get it set up if you're unfamiliar. Pulse / Flipbook are just search & read.

Also, I've become a fan of Pocketcasts as a podcast player. Multi device sync, great interface, and easy discovery of new podcasts.

Moto World News
Tune In Radio
File Expert (file management for local, network, and cloud)

Nexus 7 ProTip:

- Turn off auto sync in Currents (open the app and go to settings)
- Disable Play Magazines if you don't plan on using it (from Settings->Apps->Play Mags-> Disable).

Both of these like to sync a ton in the background and can cause lag.

And these are my two must have apps:

- Photoshop Touch
- Nexus Media Importer

Btw definitely get Photoshop for your N7... It's freakin great. I got it when it first debuted but it's so much better now, it handles images up to 13 megepixels and has a lot of the desktop features. Get a OTG cable and then you can plug your DSLR/Point and Shoot into the tablet, import into the gallery and photoshop right there. Awesome.

And with the media importer you can read/copy to your tablet from thumb drives. I use it all the time to sideload movies.

Also, tons of people love AirDroid - lets you move & manage files, pictures and other data on your android device wirelessly through a web interface.

The 4g one is $50 more... I plan to just add hotspot to my phone for a month when I travel. Most plans for the 4g tablets have month by month too.

dood, you can probably just use hotspot for free from your phone. sometimes you can even do it without rooting your phone.

Sprint. I'm sick so I am not sure if I am making it to pool.

k if youre not rooted (easy on your phone BTW), try the foxfi app. it's probably not going to show up on your play store, so just sideload it - http://foxfi.com/

also you have sprint, your internet is going to be slow as balls, like thin air at elevation.

If you have Android 4.1 or above, FoxFi doesn't work. :(

You can use PDANet via bluetooth (you'll need to install PDANet for Tablets on your n7 to connect it) It works for most apps, but some still won't see you having a data connection

Yeah I couldn't get a connection. Trying the tablet version now.

on AT&T there's some sort of detection service that will see you're tethering/using the hotspot. If you're not authorized then they'll notify you with some stern wording or whatever. At least that's what I've read over on XDA.

Basically they check the header of whatever data you're sending out. If it's not some sort of mobile browser, and they see a lot of data moving through (5GB/Month) they will send you a txt and throttle you down.

WiFi hotspot is baked into my VZW GS3. No extra charge.

actually I do believe I got that app from the play store.
I was also gonna recomment that approach to revnort. Are you gonna come over tomorrow???

... oh ok, he got it resolved.
works for me only via BT

BTW what's this 'sideloading' lingo for movies and such? For movies and pics, I simply plug in the USB cable and it's good to copy, what's the probl???

as for the flash I haven't installed it but I downloaded the archive on this device already. Not sure if I need it though.

on the other hand, I heard the monthly bill on VZ "with NO extra charge" is still more than on AT&T with a tethering charge... :facepalm

p.s. T-Mobile seems to be the cheapest and most unlockedest for this.

Sideloading means you are doing as you described or enabling install from unknown sources (and hopefully disabling right afterwards).

I got the hotspot working through bluetooth too.

If you install flash you'll also need to install a browser that supports it. I chose firefox beta, and it gives you the option to enable it right in each little flash window. So if I want to watch a flash video or play a flash game I just turn it on for that instance. Seems to work pretty well.

You can also install flashify which will simply open a URL in the other browser, although I haven't done that yet. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightshadelabs.anotherbrowser&hl=en

Meanwhile Ive downloaded 2 wsbk races, 2 motogp races and a UFC PPV on at&t's LTE network last year. Not to mention all the times Mandy used it for work.

I think as long as you don't plan to replace your home ISP with it and just use it when you travel then it's a non issue.

yeah, I got the txt awhile back saying that they believe I was tethering and and if I don't stop, they will drop my grandfathered unlimited data plan. I used less data the following month and so far it's been a non issue.
