Knee drag frustrations....

What's that mean?

<---you make it look easy haha
That's because it is easy. Put your toe on the end of the peg, point your heel at your butt, and stick your knee out. Voila.

Now being fast, that's hard.

I'm surprised no one has said not to try and force the knee down. It will come with time, and once you get it... you got it. Like everyone else has said, get to the track. Eat pb&j for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you have to. Sell that ohlins rear and throw on a stocker, that would probably net you 2 trackdays. I wouldnt recommend knee dragging off track to anyone, to many variables on the road and shit can go south real quick. Not to mention most people, including myself, had jerked during that first knee down... as much as your expecting, wanting, wishing and praying to grab a little knee it will startle you, its nice to have 35ft of track cushion.

Warning once you get to the tCrack you will be addicted.

Goodluck and I hope to see you out there.

meh,

your doing it wrong,

first go to parking lot,

ride a circle, attempt your body position, increase speed till knee comes down,

simple, why you even bothering knee dragging on public roads if you cant do it in a parking lot?

Besides knee pucks last 10x longer getting dragged on the track then the street

Another silly thread on an old topic, but I personally almost never drag pucks on the street. There are a handful of turns on Del Puerto, Mines, and 84 that I know well enough to scrape pucks on, in ideal conditions, but otherwise I'm never carrying that much lean angle on the street. On a racetrack I'm dragging pucks in every single turn, but that would be insane on the street.

If anyone wants to learn to drag pucks, they should do track days. If they can't afford to do track days, they shouldn't be trying to drag pucks on public roads.

Busy Saturday?

Ya, everyone says its addicting and I believe it. I haven't even done it and I dream about doing it! haha. But I don't like to get crazy on the street. As I was trying to explain, this was a one-time thing and I wanted to put my puck down just once...just once to know I can do it. lol Thanks for the advice though. I just enjoy cruising the twisties and practicing good positioning.

I can't wait to get to the track though. I really want to learn how to be quick and proper. Too bad the ohlins parts of my shock are inside and the springs...it's not the whole shock. I wouldn't really want to mess with that. People can buy my other fine good though! lol

That's exactly what I do. I spent quite a bit of time watching videos, then going out on my bike and practicing good positioning. Now I just need to go to the track and execute it at higher speed because that is the only part i'm missing. I go too slow on the street to put my knee down effectively.

There are no such parking lots large enough to do such a thing in Sonora. Damn mountain towns. Well that was my one-time street attempt to drag knee. Time to get to the track.

if you keep at it you will eventually drag knee on the street...but you will likely drag boot/shoulder/ass/helmet as well

sell the ohlins, and buy a stock shock, you can get to 1 or 2 track days with that.

Hey look, at this dumbass.

Quoted and fixed for truth.

didn't want to go through all the posts but im pretty sure the safety part of it has been
covered.

In my non-professional opinion, you should look at your body position closely.
I did and I was able to do it on my first track day. wohoo!

The banked turn is somehow tougher, don't ask me why. Find a flat, long 50 mph turn and slowly increase your speed as you're riding thru it. Eventually you'll either crash (won't be the first time that bike was down), touch your knee down, or both. Don't think the track is somehow bike heaven. You might total your bike 10 minutes into your first session if you're not careful. My advice? Work on being really precise, smooth, and fast when street riding. Don't worry about hanging off until hard parts (footpegs) start dragging the ground. You can go faster than 90% of the riders at any given trackday without ever moving your ass off the seat or sticking your knee out. Good luck.
