Lasik or Alternative Vision Correction

aight, y'all...

so, i finally got my p33pers done last friday!

i chose to go with Furlong Vision in campbel.

so far it's awesome waking up and not havin' to find your damn glasses just to look at the time!

my right eye is a bit off, but my left is ok. i mean, it's a bit blurry, but not the normal blurry that i'm used to. feels like when you have a dirty contact that keeps shifting :confused the docs tell me i'm still in the healing stage and that it'll most likely even out.

i also have the halos at night with any or most lights. i chose to go with the custom lasik 'cause they said the halo and starburst effect would be less likely within time, but i already see them now. again they say that with a month things should even up.

overall, i'm happy.

good luck to anyone else who might be thinking about doing this.

Congratulations Daniel! I just passed the one month mark, and everything is good so far. I'm glad I ran into you at Furlong's when you had your consult. Good luck and enjoy!

cool, man. did you experience any of what i listed above? i know you had that vessel thing, but other than that?

"that vessel thing"...hahaha...yah, that went away after a week and change, but I liked scaring my friends with it.

My eyes sometimes get dry faster. And I'm still seeing halos, but that doesn't bother me that much. It's similar to wearing dirty contacts. It has been great so far. They say 20/15 in both eyes. I love the amount of clarity I can see during the daytime. Just keep those drops handy!

My wife had it done a few months ago and could not be any happier. She sees better now then she ever has in her entire life. Literally, better now then with the correct prescription glasses!

No more halo effect for her, which she actually thought was normal her entire life. She didn't know that there wasn't supposed to be a ring around every light. Helps explain why she always hated driving and especially riding at night.

I now have the $$ in a Flex account for eye surgery...

Is everyone here still satisfied with their Lasik? Anyone still seeing halos?

Still happy. Still better than 20/20 and no halos. :thumbup

I had mine done last summer by Dr. Scott Hyver and I was very happy with the results. I was -3.75 in both eyes and I am 20/15 in both now. I'd worn glasses since I was six and every day I am amazed that I don't have to any more. No more traveling with contact lens supplies. No more closing my eyes underwater so my contacts don't fall out. I love it.

Dr Hyver and his staff were really professional. I had the wave-front option done and I think I paid $4800 for both eyes. I found cheaper, but I really didn't want to scimp on this. He does the eyes of the 49's, Giants, and Raiders, and I checked for reports of lawsuits (I couldn't find anything negative about him on the internet). In the research process I looked at Dr. Manchae at Stanford as well and he got wonderful reviews. Good luck.

:thumbup I had mine done in 2000, Dr. Stephen McLeod at UCSF. Everything went well, but whoever mentioned blue eyes seem to have it rougher, I would agree. No pain, really, but the light was excruciating for awhile. Couple weeks with artificial tears and wrap-around shades, and it was okay.

I never had a real halo problem but I still get pretty significant glare from headlights coming at me. My night vision was never the best, anyway, so I'm a little more of a daytime rider and driver, now.

Anyway, no regrets, here.

I opted to get the PRK procedure because they don't cut the flap in your cornea to do the surgery.
The flap, if cut, has the potential to un-attach for the rest of your life. This is why they will only use this procedure on pro athletes like hockey players who might be bumped in the eye.

The results are the same and I was still able to get the wavefront procedure done with PRK but the healing time is WAY different.
Imagine someone rubbing your eyeball with a toothbrush for 2 days straight. Yeah, that is how it felt.

And there is nothing you can do about it because closing your eyes doesn't help.
No sleep either, I just paced with my head in my hands for a whole weekend.

Also, it takes longer for you vision to stabalize. It was a good 5 weeks before I could look at my computer screen without squinting.

Anyway, I'm finally happy that I had PRK but it's just a lot more work. I wanted to make everyone aware because they certainly never told me that it would feel like that.
At least now I can get smacked in the face:teeth

i cried... the whole weekend...:laughing

ouch, that's crazy!

well, i've had mine done now for a little over 2 months and i love it.

same as above, i don't have to worry about contacts/glasses falling out/off, i can wear nicer sunglasses, don't have to wake up to a blur every morning... i mean, it's the littlest things that some people take for granted that make this procedure the best for people like us. ahh, best money i've spent....wait, besides my bike of course :teeth

Ok I know this is an old thread, but I'm finally going to bite the bullet and have decided to get lasik (my Rx is a -12.00!)
I've chickened out for the last 10 years and my contacts are irritating my eyes. :(

How are you guys doing now since the lasik surgery?

My prescription was almost as bad as yours until I got mine done. Since then, I have gone completely blind. In addition, both eyes became infected and my head had to be amputated at the neck. In retrospect, I'm not sure I would have gotten the LASIK.

Hahahahaha... just kidding! (as if you might have believed me).

Really, though, I still see perfectly. There has been no deterioration of any kind and I still consider it the best money I ever spent. Go for it!

Haha. :thumbup

Where did you have yours done?
I logged on to my VSP account and I apparently get a discount on lasik.
I've been having to wear my nerdy glasses all week too so this will give my eyes a rest and hopefully a chance to get an exam soon :nerd

You guys are lucky.

I can't get lasik. I have Keratoconus.

My eyes keep getting steeper (Keratoconus = cone shaped cornea instead of spherical) which means I have to keep getting new RGP lenses (hard contacts).

Optometrist said next time it happens, which is every 6 months or so, I'll probably get put onto the waiting list for organ donors, meaning once my name gets called I will get the corneas of a dead guy implanted into my eyeballs after my diseased cornea gets cut out. FUCKING AWESOME!!!! :cry

Reminds me of this.
