Lasik or Alternative Vision Correction

I dunno, I asked my Optometrist if I'll be like that guy in the movie who gets a hand transplanted from a murderer and then starts killing people... I wonder if I'll start seeing people differently.

You guys are lucky.

I can't get lasik. I have Keratoconus.

My eyes keep getting steeper (Keratoconus = cone shaped cornea instead of spherical) which means I have to keep getting new RGP lenses (hard contacts).

Optometrist said next time it happens, which is every 6 months or so, I'll probably get put onto the waiting list for organ donors, meaning once my name gets called I will get the corneas of a dead guy implanted into my eyeballs after my diseased cornea gets cut out. FUCKING AWESOME!!!! :cry

See this http://www.theeyethefilm.com/ couldn't help myself.

I also had lasik about 8 years ago. My eyes are still 20/20 but when I had them done they were both a perfect 20/10. Shooting pistols at the fifty yard range and checking scores without a spotting scope was seriously:cool.

I wouldn't have it any other way:thumbup

Also, I don't know about the "blue eyes are more susceptable" theory in and of itself. I think the surgery may hurt people with blue eyes because light gets into the receptors easier. I have a condition where I have about 50 percent more receptors than normal. I can see in the dark with almost no other light at all. However, I've litterally "sunburned" my eyes skiing when I was a kid. And my eyes are brown. And yes, now you can say what follows (wait for it):laughing

I had my eyes done at Furlong. (I think I may have actually referred F33rnoFish.) Anyways, I think I've had it for 5-6 years. Just had a checkup a month ago, and I'm still 20/20. Some of the best money I've spent.

Hrm. I have blue eyes and I've always been sensitive to light anyway. :p

i was legally blind without my glasses with them on i was around 20/80 but still saw ok enough to ride.

recently i have had ICL implants and then prk on top of that. i was told by one of the best lasik guys that i had the worst vision he and the people he is affiliated with has ever seen

i can ellaborate more if interest insues

Wow Shawn :(
So how well is your vision now with the surgery?
(yes, please elaborate!)

20/25 20/30

10g's later i have almost perfect vision however there has come consequences with my vision.

I dont like driving at night because of a severe dry eye issue i have that creates halo's around every single light which makes night time riding/driving for me a no-no (and im only 21)

however i can do things normal vision people took advantage of.... take a shower with no glasses on... wear dirt bike goggles..... fit into a helmet without bending my glasses.... see my self in the mirror with sunglasses on.... wear sunglasses

more elaboaration if wanted

I got lasik and when it healed up I was only 20/30. I was disappointed with the results but after about 6 weeks I went back to the same Dr and he did a free "touch up" procedure. I'm now 20/15 with no problems.

That's awesome and congratulations. :thumbup

I've always been sensitive about my eyes. I've worn glasses since I was six years old and hesitated on getting lasik for the last 10 years as the idea of a 'laser' in my eye sort of freaks me out.

I'm gonna do it though!
omg

haha i wear sunglasses/glasses because the fact that ive worn them for so long it transformed into a security blanket and my eyes are really sensitive to the sun and hardcore lighting

do it

I was nearsighted.... -4.75 right -5.25 right. Had custom wavefront PRK done 9 months ago (all lazer no flap) done by dr. scott hyver, absolutely perfect vision now I can't imagine still wearing contacts. strongly recommend him, http://www.scotthyver.com

Lasik decision

Everything is great (well, except the night time driving) halos occur if my eyes are dry and my peripheral vision is a bit suspect. I can drive, but I have to focus a bit more than normal.

Daytime = :thumbup

I recommend it!

Ok I know this is an old thread, but I'm finally going to bite the bullet and have decided to get lasik (my Rx is a -12.00!)
I've chickened out for the last 10 years and my contacts are irritating my eyes. :(

How are you guys doing now since the lasik surgery?

In '06 I had the custom wavefront procedure in Concord at http://www.lasikplus.com/lasik-center/lasik-plus-concord.asp

Prior to, I required glasses or contacts in order to operate any kind of vehicle, or interact with people without looking like a fool trying to squint at them and see who they are. I got beyond sick-n-tired of the glasses and contacts.

I was scared to death of the procedure, but it (the actual procedure, both eyes done on same appointment) took only minutes. The pre-op stuff (multiple appointments, consultations, measurements, checking of measurements, verification of measurements, more consultations) took forever spread across multiple days. It was annoying at first but then I became thankful that they were putting such effort into doing the job right.

The procedure didn't hurt one bit, despite my fears. Just a little -brief- discomfort a couple times (once per eye). End result was 20/15 right afterward. I don't know where I am now but have noticed no perceptible change and am still THRILLED that I can just go to bed at night, just get up and go in the morning, can swim, drink, ride my bicycle and motorcycles, and everything else without the hassles glasses and contacts introduced.

I'd do it again in a flash!!

YMMV (had to disclaim).

I had wavefront done a little over a year ago.
I love it, and I'm able to see 20/10 combined.

Unlike others, my vision was not stellar at first. It took about 8 weeks for it to fully heal and my vision to get clear.
My suggestion, if you do get it, is not to expect awesome results the next day - be patient. :)

edit:
I was also terrified of the surgery, and the only thing that got me to do it was when I started riding.
helmets & glasses are a pain.

They say you can actually smell your cornea burning when the procedure it done...I've been told that it smells like when you used to burn insects beneath a magnifying glass... :green

How are you guys doing now since the lasik surgery?

Hey Cutie, since the surgury my eyes have been great. For the first year or so i had dry eye sometimes in the right eye and the first 6 months or so i would get some halo while driveing at night.

Since those issues, which i was informed of prior to the procedure, everything has been Great. :thumbup

Its been a while since it was done and i almost forgot that i actually wore glasses for 25 or so years. It still is a trip when i think about how it was.

The sooner you do it the sooner you will live Glasses free...

You too eh? Keratoconus is a pain in the ass. I'm running through RGP Gas permiable lenses every year. I'll probably go the donor route, just trying to figure out a configuration I'd be comfortable with. The specialists said I can get lasik, but theres a small chance of mutation reverting the surgery back, so I may just have it removed and replaced.
